A quick glance at my sitemeter (left hand side all the way down) the other day brought an above average number of google searches. A closer examination showed that many of these searches were for "Tesco Jew" and my blog was turning up as the second result for a previous post I had written up many moons ago.

A news search brought up this as a side note on the story of the Starbucks Attack:

Just four hours earlier, a gang of youths hurled a brick at a Tesco delivery van half-a-mile away, then attacked the driver as he drove through Canon Street Road. The 45-year-old driver was later treated for a head injury and needed seven stitches.

Cops said the youths were Asian, who were wearing dark tops and may have been seen outside a fast food restaurant earlier.

The new Tesco Metro supermarket in Stepney’s Commercial Road was targeted at the weekend when several windows were smashed and the words ‘kill Jews’ was daubed in paint.

The same slogan was daubed on the wall of a children’s playground on Whitechapel’s Chicksand housing estate last week.

As I was reading an article on Ynet about the BBC deciding not to have a fundraiser for Hamas I came accross this comment from fellow Israel supporter:

See below for the usual BBC / Channel 4 / Sky News guidelines for Israel....

1. always accept the Palestinian version without question

2. interview at least 8 Palestinian supporters to every Israeli supporter

3. assume the UN is impartial, and a shining beacon of justice in a dark world

4. assume any video / photos provided by Palestinians are always reliable - never question their veracity. It’s probably not worth bothering viewers with the fact that much of the media is doctored or staged – this will only confuse them

5. gloss over the last 60 years of history (never mention how 6 Arab armies tried to destroy Israel in '48, '67, and '73)

6. don't report how Hamas (etc) bully, torture and murder their own people, or misappropriate aid/finance (or if you do, play it down)

7. NEVER mention that Iran / Hamas / Fatah have vowed to destroy Israel and kill every Jew in the world (if you do mention it, assume they don't really mean it)

8. Report only the words that Fatah say in English, never what they say in Arabic

9. if you interview an Israeli (or misguided supporter such as Colonel Kemp, Mark Regev), make sure you interrupt them frequently. If you're coming off second best, tell them you're running out of time

10. if interviewing a Palestinian (or Annie Lennox, Alexei Sayle), make sure you ask them lots of really open questions, allowing lots of time to air their views without interruption - nod frequently to show your support. Don’t interrupt them, as this is disrespectful

11. above all, the tone of your voice should exhibit disapproval towards Israel, and sympathy towards Palestinians

12. ensure you use the word "occupation" as much as you can (don't get involved in meaningless discussions concerning how Israel either paid huge sums for swamps / wilderness in '48, or won it when arabs declared war on them)

13. never report anti-semitic attacks/incidents from the UK or elsewhere (we are unsure as to why these are increasing, but certain it has nothing to do with how we are portraying the situation)

14. don't report Pro-Israel activity such as marches – nobody cares, and these people are misguided anyway. If the politicians from all parties turn a blind eye, why shouldn’t we ?

15. if you get the facts wrong (Israel murders 1000’s in Bethlehem), never issue an apology or retraction

16. It is probably more news-worthy if you paint Israel as the aggressor – so don’t mention that Hamas launched over 6,000 rockets into Israel after Israel had vacated the Gaza strip

17. On proportionality, probably not worth mentioning comparisons with civilian casualties in Iraq, Afghanistan, or WW2 Germany (this will only confuse people). The fact that Hamas deliberately booby-trapped civilian homes and made people go into them, we are sure, has nothing to do with civilian casualties....

18. probably not worth mentioning the Bible – Jesus, a Jew, born in Bethlehem, visiting the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem (this is only 2000 years of history anyway....)

Note to Producers – make sure that when interviews are taking place that you loop some video showing ultra-left wing Norwegian doctors running after ambulances performing chest compression on live patients, and female Hamas supporters screaming uncontrollably about how their terrorist husbands were mercilessly martyred by the IDF. Remember, it really doesn’t matter what the interview says because people will remember the images

You'll notice that when the parent supposedly corrected the pupils, he advised them they should hate the IDF, not Jews. I'm not sure I understand why Muslim parents are being invited into schools suggesting that children hate anything. Ahh, no doubt they'll have a Jewish parent in next week to tell the kiddies why they should hate Muslim armies:

A TOP private school is at the centre of a race row between its Jewish and Muslim pupils.

In the wake of fighting in Gaza which has left nearly 1000 Palestinians dead, Muslim children at Glasgow's Hutchesons' Grammar School were asked if they hated Jews.

The school admitted many put up their hands - only to be told they should hate the Israeli army instead.

Muslim and Jewish pupils attend separate morning assemblies at the school, where fees are around £9000 a year.

News of last Thursday's controversial meeting was released by two Jewish pupils who went along by mistake.

The assembly was led by Asgher Mohammed, a parent who is believed to be a chemist.

News of the hate vote spread quickly through the 368-year-old school.

The parents of one of the Jewish children involved wrote to school rector Dr Kenneth Greig.

Dr Greig had letters sent out to other parents to explain the circumstances.

A school spokesman said yesterday: "The person in question has a long-standing history of taking the morning assembly.

"This is the first time anything like this has happened.

Perhaps it was not advisable to ask the question that he did.

"However, no one believes anything was intended to cause offence.

"His lesson was to preach religious tolerance and to show, despite what is going on in the Middle East, that Muslims and Jews in the UK can live in peace."

Claire Singerman, who co-ordinates Jewish assemblies at the school, stressed the "excellent" relationship between pupils of different faiths.

Chemist Asgher Mohammed said last night: "I have seen the statement from the school and amvery happy with that. I am not going to say anything else."

Muslim pupils make up around seven per cent of the school roll. Around six per cent are Jewish.

The school's famous ex-pupils include former lord chancellor Derry Irvine and John Buchan, author of The Thirty-Nine Steps.

Three months ago, it was ordered to improve access for poorer students or risk losing its status as a charity.

YALA, Thailand (Reuters) - Suspected separatists shot dead two Buddhist teachers on Friday and burned their bodies in Thailand's rebellious Muslim south, police said, the latest attack in a three-year insurgency that has killed more than 1,800.

The teachers were ambushed in their pickup truck only 300 meters (yards) from the village school where they taught in the southern province of Yala, police said. Security forces are bracing for a new round of attacks on government buildings, officials and civilians to mark the third anniversary of the renewed insurgency on January 4, police said.

"We knew they were going to do it, but we didn't know the target," Police Colonel Pumipetch Pipatpetchpoom said of the attackers. "Our security checkpoints have blocked them from entering the city, so they had to do it in a village," he added.

Nobody has claimed responsibility for the violence which has seen almost daily gun and bomb attacks in the three predominantly Muslim southern provinces bordering Malaysia.

Thailand's military-appointed government has embarked on a peace drive in the Malay-speaking region, an independent sultanate until the Buddhist-dominated Bangkok government annexed it a century ago. But the attacks have continued.

The Education Ministry said this week 110 schools had been hit by arson attacks and 71 teachers and school staff killed in attacks since January 2004.

Good News From The Ethiopian Front

MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Ethiopia said on Tuesday it was halfway to victory against Somali Islamists and could seize their Mogadishu stronghold within days following a week of war in the Horn of Africa.

Islamists countered that they were ready for a long war and any attempt to oust them would prove disastrous for their foes. The Red Cross said hundreds were wounded in the latest fighting.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi said his forces supporting Somalia's weak interim government had killed up to 1,000 Islamist fighters. There was no independent verification of that. The Islamists also claim to have killed hundreds.
"We have already completed half our mission, and as soon as we finish the second half, our troops will leave Somalia," Meles told a news conference in the Ethiopian capital.

He said a force of between 3,000 and 4,000 Ethiopians had "broken the back" of the Somalia Islamic Courts Council (SICC) around the government's south-central outpost Baidoa, and that the Islamists were now in "full retreat".

Ethiopia backs Somalia's secular interim government against the Islamists who hold most of southern Somalia after seizing Mogadishu in June. Addis Ababa and Washington say the Islamists are backed by al Qaeda and by Ethiopia's enemy, Eritrea.

Somalia's envoy to Addis Ababa said Ethiopian soldiers had advanced to within 70 km (40 miles) of Mogadishu and could capture it in 24-48 hours.

SICC spokesman Abdi Kafi said any such attempt "will be their destruction and doomsday ... It is a matter of time before we start striking at them from all directions."

The Islamists claim broad popular support and say their aim is to restore order to Somalia under sharia law after years of anarchy since the 1991 ouster of dictator Siad Barre.

The U.N. Security Council scheduled an emergency meeting to be briefed on Tuesday by Secretary-General Kofi Annan's special envoy for Somalia, Francois Lonseny Fall of Guinea.

AU BACKING

Meles said his forces' main target now were Eritrean troops and foreign jihadists. He said a handful of Islamist prisoners taken on the battlefield were holding British passports.

At least two Ethiopian jets fired missiles on retreating Islamist fighters on Tuesday shortly after pro-government forces recaptured two towns near Baidoa. It was the third day of Ethiopian air attacks in the escalating conflict.

"Over 800 war wounded have arrived at the various medical structures around Baidoa and Mogadishu is the last few days," said Antonella Notari, spokeswoman for the International Committee of the Red Cross.

"Thousands of people are fleeing the combat areas. It is too early to tell if this is a temporary displacement," Notari said.

The African Union (AU) backed Ethiopia's right to intervene. Diplomats say that, allied to Washington's tacit support, may embolden Meles to try to seize Mogadishu.

The fighting could now draw in Eritrea on the side of the Islamists, the diplomats said. They added that Kenya, which is taking in a flood of Somali refugees across its north border, was trying to broker cease-fire talks.

The Islamists insisted their retreat was a tactic in what they vowed would be a long war. "We will fight to the last man until we ensure there are no more Ethiopian troops in our country," Kafi said.

Thousands of Islamist fighters crammed into trucks mounted with anti-aircraft guns and left Mogadishu for the frontlines.

Analysts say Ethiopia's heavy arms and MiG jets had saved the government from being routed.

"This is the first stage of victory ... When this is all over, we will enter Mogadishu peacefully," government spokesman Abdirahman Dinari said by telephone from Baidoa. He offered amnesty to Islamists who lay down their arms.

Addis Ababa fears a hardline Muslim state on its doorstep and accuses the SICC of wanting to annex Ethiopia's ethnically Somali Ogaden region.

Australia : Muslim Students Urinate, Spit On Then Burn Bible

Uh oh, does this mean the worlds 2 billion Christians are gonna start rioting in the streets and calling for the blood of Muslims to be spilled? Hmmm probably not, but I'm sure the MSM will report this at and make it front page headlines for a month just like the Koran desecrations :

TWO Muslim students have been expelled from an Islamic school in Melbourne for urinating and spitting on a Bible and setting it on fire.

The explosive incident has forced the East Preston Islamic College to call in a senior imam to tell its 650 Muslim students that the Bible and Christianity must be respected.

Anxious teachers at the school have also petitioned principal Shaheem Doutie, expressing "grave concern" about an "inculcation of hatred and radical attitudes towards non-Muslims" at the school, including towards non-Muslim teachers.

The Bible desecration took place last week at a school camp held near Bacchus Marsh, about 50km west of Melbourne, attended by 33 teenage Muslim boys ranging in age from Year7 to Year 10.

A school report of the incident, obtained by The Australian, says it happened late at night and involved three students and another two watching.

"The main perpetrator (a Year 7 student) urinated on the Holy Bible, tore some pages from the Holy Book and burnt them then finally spat on the Holy Book," the report says.

The second boy, from Year 9, "tore pages from the Holy Book and burnt them", while a third student, from Year 7, "tore pages from the Holy Bible and then he rolled it up like a cigarette and pretended to smoke it".

The boys come from a variety of ethnic Muslim backgrounds -- one is believed to be an Albanian/Malaysian, another Lebanese and another Indonesian.

Mr Doutie, whose school receives about $3.9 million in state and federal government funding each year, told The Australian yesterday that both he and the school community were appalled by the Bible desecration and that he had expelled the first two boys and suspended the third.

In a letter to all staff on Monday, Mr Doutie wrote: "The school unconditionally apologises for this horrible act as conducted by some illiterate and ignorant students while under the care of EPIC teachers.

"We regard the desecration of the Bible in a very serious light and therefore we have taken serious action against the offenders.

"The Bible is an important book both for non-Muslims and Muslims and should be treated as a holy book by all religions."

Mr Doutie said he did not believe that the boys realised the significance of their act.

But to ensure it did not happen again he had called in the assistant imam of the Newport Mosque, Oman Haouli, to tell the students that the Bible was a sacred book. "My lesson to them was to respect their neighbours and respect all religions," Mr Haouli said yesterday.

But the desecration incident has shaken the nerves of the school's teachers, about half of whom are non-Muslim.

A petition signed by 22 teachers expressed "anguish and dismay at the grave incident of the desecration of the Holy Bible".

"This whole incident implies a deep hatred inculcated in the students towards the Christians/non-Muslim teachers," it says.

The petition said there had been "previous incidents of students misbehaving towards non-Muslim teachers".

It called on the school to "take steps to rectify this explosive situation" to ensure the safety of teachers.

Mr Doutie said the school had tried to contact the parents of the expelled boys to find out why they had desecrated the Bible. But he said the school had not received a response.

EPIC is an eight-year-old primary and secondary school in Melbourne's north that caters mostly to the children of working-class immigrant Somali and Lebanese families.

The Bible desecration comes at a time of heightened tension among Australia's 300,000-member Islamic community, many of whom believe their religion is being unfairly discriminated against because of terrorism fears.

Many Muslims remain angry about the public humiliation suffered by their spiritual leader, the mufti Taj Din al-Hilali, after the Sheik likened female rape victims to pieces of meat who brought the attacks on themselves.

Where would the children get these crazy ideas from you may wonder? Where does this hatred come from? A good start might be the school library where Islamic hate videos are kept :

Not to worry though, the guy who made the video, who still lectures to school groups on behalf of a London mosque says he's "shocked to the core" that some students were influenced by the video of him calling non-Muslims evil. Shocked I tells ya :

THE British Muslim lecturer accused of inspiring anti-Christian feeling at a Melbourne Islamic college says he is disgusted by news that three students had defaced a Bible.

Abdur Raheem Green said he was "shocked to the core" to be told that students at East Preston Islamic College had urinated on and burned a Bible.

"These boys need to repent to God because, quite apart from being offensive to Christians, this is seriously wrong under Islam," he said. "The Koran tells us not to insult other people's gods."

Mr Green, a 42-year-old former Catholic who lectures to school groups on behalf of a high-profile mainstream mosque in London, said he was horrified by suggestions that the boys could have been influenced by a video in the school's library of a 2003 lecture in which he referred to some non-Muslim Australians as evil.

"I have changed my views a lot over the past few years and I have also come to realise that I should be more careful in how I express myself - I regret some things I have said in the past," he told The Weekend Australian.

"But even back then, when I saw things in more simplistic, black-and-white terms than I do now, I was not calling Christians or Christianity evil. I was talking about things that go on in Western society, like 14-year-olds having sex, and drug abuse and alcohol abuse.

"When I say marriage outside sex is evil or homosexuality is evil I do believe that but I am not saying that those people are evil, I am saying the act is evil. Conservative Christians and Jews feel the same way. There is a theological conflict with Christianity because we happen to believe it is blasphemy to say that any human was the Son of God, but it should be a peaceful conflict."

The 2003 video shows Mr Green warning that if Muslim children attended non-Muslim schools "they will be destroyed - you think you live in a sewer and you come up smelling roses?" But yesterday he said he was mystified by those comments, saying he changed his mind on the issue "well before 2003".

Mr Green, who works as a full-time "outreach officer" for London Central Mosque, lectures on Islam to about 10,000 non-Muslim students a year. The father of 10 describes himself as socially conservative - his wife chooses to wear a niqab face veil - but says the main political criticism he attracts is from hardliners saying he is too moderate.

He supports armed jihad, "meaning the defence of our religion against aggression", and spent two weeks doing military training in Afghanistan in 1990 when the US was supporting Islamic fighters against the Soviet invasion. But he considers Osama bin Laden a "twisted" murderer.

Mr Green, who has visited Australia four times, said he had never been banned from visiting despite being placed on an Australian government watch list, which forced him to cancel a visit last year because the delay involved in applying for a visa caused him to miss a scheduled speaking engagement. "I would like to come back there and sit down with the teachers and students at that school and talk these things through," he said.

It seems as though a cartoon [Opus] which appeared on the Berkeley Breathed Website contained an anagram for 'The Prophet Mohammed', but it was scribbled out. Below is the original cartoon strip, including the scribbled anagram [click the picture for the full sized image]. So the challenge is for my fellow infidels to work out what it was. Christian Game Creates Outrage Amongst Dhimmis And Islamofascists Alike

A militant Christian computer game could become a Christmas bestseller despite calls for it to be banned.

The game lets players lead an army of violent Christian crusaders fighting to free America from the anti-Christ.

Left Behind: Eternal Forces rewards users for converting or killing unbelievers, in a post-apocalyptic New York.

The game has just gone on sale in the US and is now being introduced to UK shops, sparking protests from Muslims and secularists.

The Muslim Association of Britain called for a ban, saying: 'This game is irresponsible and highly racist.

Errr, yeeees. Christians being RACIST against non Christians. Since when was Christianity a race?

'It demonises every other religion which isn't Christianity. Games like this poison the minds of young people.'

National Secular Society president Terry Sanderson said: 'Most Muslims and most Christians would recognise this as crude and despicable hate-mongering and give it a wide berth.'

Ah, well who'd know better about what Christians and Muslims think than the president of the 'National Secular Society'. Moron!

The game is based on Left Behind, a series of Christian fantasy books created by US authors Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins.

It encourages users to strengthen their troops through 'the power of prayer' - and lines up Spies, Special Forces and Battle Tanks alongside Prayer Warriors.

The makers have said the game should not be taken too seriously as a Biblical study.

Left Behind Games chief executive Troy A Lyndon said: 'The game is designed to be a classic battle between good and evil.

'But it does not gratuitously depict death or violence.

'Situations are used to encourage gamers to think about matters of eternal significance, a topic largely ignored in modern games.'

LONDON: A Muslim man who was so hungry while fasting during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan that he killed a swan to eat was jailed for two months at a court in Britain on Wednesday.

Shamsu Miah, 52, killed the mute swan at a boating pond in the north Welsh seaside resort of Llandudno on September 25 -- only the second day of fasting in Britain.

All mute swans in Britain belong to the sovereign, Queen Elizabeth II, an historical quirk dating from the 12th century.

When challenged by police, Miah said: "I am a Muslim, I am fasting, I needed to eat."

Llandudno Magistrates Court heard that Miah had blood on his shirt and white feathers in his beard.

Prosecutor Jim Neary said: "When interviewed he said, 'I was hungry, I had to eat the swan so I killed it, I stabbed it. I did nothing wrong, it was just a bird, I needed to eat'."

"The officers told him the swan was the property of the queen and he replied, 'I hate the queen, I hate this country'."

Judge Andrew Shaw told Miah: "You killed a swan at night. It was a cruel and reprehensible act.

"I don't know how it died; there seems to be some speculation that you bit it but I accept you killed it with a knife. It is a taboo act and the only sentence I can pass is one of imprisonment."

Miah had pleaded guilty to intentionally killing a wild bird and possessing a bladed article. He was released from custody having already served his two-month sentence while on remand.

GAZA CITY (AFP) - Two Italian Red Cross workers were abducted at gunpoint in the Gaza Strip, just hours after arriving from Jerusalem, in the latest foreigner abduction to blight the chaotic territory.

The two men were driving alone back to Gaza City from the southern town of Khan Yunis when they were stopped by gunmen, forced out of their vehicle at gunpoint and driven away, an International Red Cross spokesman said.

"Both of them were Italian Red Cross workers and both were Italian," said ICRC spokesman Simon Schorno, naming them as Claudio Moroni, 36, and Gianmarco Onorato, 63.

Palestinian security forces have mobilized to search for the abducted aid workers and set up checkpoints on roads throughout southern Gaza, Palestinian security sources said.

The two Italians had arrived in the Gaza Strip from Jerusalem only Tuesday morning, Schorno said, to work on a joint mission between the Italian Red Cross and the Palestinian Red Crescent Society on a "psychological support project".

Masked gunmen forced the two foreigners out of their vehicle at a junction in Khan Yunis and into their own car, driving off to an unknown destination, a Palestinian security source said. No group immediately claimed responsibility.

Schorno said they were travelling in a clearly marked Red Cross vehicle, adding it was not unusual for foreign Red Cross staff to travel alone.

He was unable to provide any other personal details about the two men and confirmed that no news had been heard from them since they were seized.

A spokesman for the Italian consulate in east Jerusalem said the Italian authorities were investigating.

Kidnappings of foreigners have increased in the impoverished and increasingly lawless Palestinian territory, which has been mired in an unprecedented financial and political crisis for months.

Most of the victims have been released unharmed in days.

Around 20 foreigners, including many journalists, have been taken hostage in more than a year by gunmen generally looking to secure the release of Palestinians detained by the Palestinian Authority.

An Italian journalist working for the Corriere Della Sera newspaper was abducted in the Gaza Strip on September 10 but freed safe and sound later the same day.

Last month, a Spanish aid worker and photographer were kidnapped by gunmen in two separate incidents in the Gaza Strip before also being released unhurt.

Most Gaza-based kidnappings end with the victims released unharmed within a few days, but last August two journalists for US television Fox News were held for 13 days by a previously unknown militant group, Holy Jihad Brigades.

Their abductors demanded the release of all Muslim prisoners held in US jails, the first time that Gaza kidnappers made demands of a foreign government rather than the Palestinian Authority.

JABALIYA REFUGEE CAMP, Gaza Strip (AFP) - Palestinians were celebrating victory over Israel in a Gaza refugee camp after a human shield of hundreds prompted the military to abort a threatened air strike.

"This is a victory for the Palestinian people. It is a defeat for the Israeli F-16s," said Ahmed Fuad Barud, a 33-year-old militant in the radical Popular Resistance Committees, on Sunday.

"Every time they (the Israeli military) call from now on, no one will leave their homes," he said from his house in the Jabaliya refugee camp which Israel had warned overnight would be destroyed in a campaign against militant infrastructure.

The military called off the strike after several hundred Palestinians late Saturday formed a human shield around the house, home of wanted militant Wael Barud of the Resistance Committees.

"Basically yes," a military spokesman said when asked if the raid was aborted. "We don't want to hurt uninvolved civilians. The terrorists are using uninvolved civilians as human shields.

"We'll continue to operate against terrorist infrastructure while continuing to distinguish between the civilians and the terrorists," the spokesman added.

Between 200 to 300 neighbours had flocked to the Barud family home after receiving the warning late Saturday. Neighbours and militants gathered at the house throughout Sunday to celebrate what they hailed as a victory.

"The sons of the Jews cannot break us, our will or our resistance," said family member Abu Emad Barud, calling himself a local leader in the armed wing of the ruling Hamas movement.

"These are the boys of Islam, the boys of the resistance who have gathered here," he added, gesturing to those circling around him.

The wanted Wael Barud is a member of the Popular Resistance Committees, one of three factions that claimed responsibility for the capture of an Israeli corporal in June, triggering a massive Israeli offensive in Gaza.

Israel has been carrying out nightly raids against targets across the Gaza Strip since rockets fired by Palestinian militants in northern Gaza killed a mother of two in the southern town of Sderot on Wednesday.

Another salvo of Palestinian rockets on Sunday left three people wounded in the same town, including one seriously, as the Israeli cabinet weighed its options in combatting the rocket attacks.

On November 3, several hundred heavily veiled women managed to rescue 15 Palestinian gunmen from a mosque in the northern Gaza town of Beit Hanun by marching in a chain of human shields during a bloody Israeli ground offensive.

Four protestors, including two women, were killed and another 25 people wounded by Israeli gunfire ahead of the daring rescue attempt.

One of Britain's most prominent speakers on Muslim issues is today exposed as a supporter of David Irving, the controversial historian who for years denied the Holocaust took place.

Asghar Bukhari, a founder member of the Muslim Public Affairs Committee (MPAC), which describes itself as Britain's largest Muslim civil rights group, sent money to Irving and urged Islamic websites to ask visitors to make donations to his fighting fund.

Bukhari contacted the discredited historian, sentenced this year to three years in an Austrian prison for Holocaust denial, after reading his website. He headed his mail to Irving with a quotation attributed to the philosopher John Locke: 'All that is needed for evil to triumph is for good people to stand idle.'

In one email Bukhari tells Irving: 'You may feel like you are on your own but rest assured many people are with you in your fight for the Truth.' Bukhari pledges to make a donation of £60 to Irving's fighting fund and says that he has asked 'a few of my colleagues to send some in too'. He also offers to send Irving a book, They Dare to Speak Out, by Paul Findley, a former US Senator, who has attacked his country's close relationship with Israel. Bukhari says Findley 'has suffered like you in trying to expose certain falsehoods perpetrated by the Jews'.

In a follow-up letter, Bukhari writes: 'Here is the cheque I promised. Good luck, if there is any other way I can help please don't hestitate to call me. I have also asked many Muslim websites to create links to your own and ask for donations.'

Bukhari confirmed sending the letters in 2000. 'I had a lot of sympathy for anyone who opposed Israel,' Bukhari told The Observer said. 'I wrote letters to anyone who was tough against the Israelis - David Irving, Paul Findley, the PLO."I don't feel I have done anything wrong, to be honest. At the time I was of the belief he [Irving] was anti-Zionist, being smeared for nothing more then being anti-Zionist.

'The pro-Israeli lobby often accused people of anti-Semitism and smear tactics against groups and individuals is well known. I condemn anti-Semitism as strongly as I condemn Zionism (in my opinion they are both racist ideologies). I also believe that anyone who denies the Holocaust is wrong (I don't think they should be put behind bars for it though).'

At his trial this year, Irving said he had been 'mistaken' to say the gas chambers did not exist. He had been due to attend a conference hosted by Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, questioning the 'truthfulness' of the Holocaust.

'David Irving was described by a High Court judge as a falsifier of history and a false denier,' said Karen Pollock, chief executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust. 'I can't understand why anyone would want to support his views, let alone encourage and influence others to sympathise with them. I'm appalled.'

Earlier this year, speaking on behalf of MPAC, Bukhari said a march in London in protest at the publication of satirical cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad should not have gone ahead. 'We believe it should have been banned and the march stopped,' Bukhari said. 'Freedom of speech has to be responsible.'

MPAC was banned from university campuses in 2004 after being branded 'anti-semitic' by the National Union of Students. It is becoming increasingly influential within the Muslim community. At the last election the organisation drew up a list of Labour candidates with links to Israel, whom it urged Muslims to vote out. One MP, Lorna Fitzsimons, lost her seat to the Lib Dems by 400 votes.

'Getting into bed with Holocaust revisionists who are the heroes of racist organisations which use Islamophobia to divide communities on racial and religious grounds is just extraordinary and very, very sad,' Fitzsimons said.

MPAC, which strongly denies allegations that it is anti-semitic, accused The Observer of 'twisting an innocent gesture of support (even if gravely mistaken) into more than it is'. The story was 'just another Islamaphobic attack aimed at undermining and harming the brave individuals who support the Palestinian cause and the cause of Muslims within Britain.'

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - The death of a man with Moroccan roots who was run over by a woman after he stole her bag has inflamed Dutch racial tensions that have smouldered since the murder of a filmmaker critical of Islam.

Several hundred people, including many Moroccans, marched on Friday from the site in an immigrant neighbourhood in Amsterdam where the 19-year-old died on Monday. The woman whose bag he stole drove her car into his moped, crushing him against a tree.

The friends and family of the youth, named by the media as Ali El Bejjati, say his death was a racially motivated murder. Two months ago, filmmaker Theo van Gogh was killed in the same district, allegedly by a 26-year-old Dutch-Moroccan.

The story has been front-page news all week in the Netherlands, home to about one million Muslims, more than a quarter of Moroccan descent. De Telegraaf daily said on Friday it was the man's own fault.

Geert Wilders, an anti-immigration politician whose popularity has soared since Van Gogh was murdered, called for the government to strip criminals with dual citizenship of their Dutch nationality.

"Arresting the woman makes the victim the criminal and the criminal a victim. It's turning the world on its head," he said.

Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende was forced on Friday to defend Immigration Minister Rita Verdonk, who said the woman had not committed murder and the death would never have happened if the youth had not stolen the bag. A placard reading "Verdonk, murderess" was placed at the site of the death.

Van Gogh's murder on November 2 triggered a series of attacks on mosques and churches and a wave of death threats against politicians, including Verdonk and Wilders, shattering the Netherlands' reputation for tolerance.

The woman, who prosecutors want to charge for manslaughter, was released on Thursday pending further investigations.

Bomb Blasts In Thailand After PM Visit

Three bombs have exploded in a predominantly-Muslim province in southern Thailand, killing one person and injuring about 30.

The attacks followed a visit and a call for peace on Thursday by the new Prime Minister, Surayud Chulanont.

Five soldiers were hurt in one roadside bombing in Narathiwat province. An hour later another roadside bomb and one in a tea shop killed one and injured 24.

More than 1,500 people have died in the restive south since January 2004.

The first bomb of about 15kg (33lb) and possibly hidden in a fire extinguisher exploded as a patrol of soldiers was passing. Two of the injured soldiers were said to be in critical condition.

An hour later, a 5kg bomb went off in a tea shop followed five minutes later by a similar-sized roadside bomb that killed a street vendor.

Since coming to power following a coup in September, the army-appointed Mr Surayud has apologised for previous tough policies in the Muslim-majority, Malay-speaking region.

But the violence has increased since his appointment.

Bombs also exploded on 9 November, a day after his previous visit.

Brad Adams of the US-based Human Rights Watch said: "Insurgent groups are targeting civilians to show their power and highlight the Thai government's weakness."

The group called on the government to take concrete steps to rebuild trust in the region.

Reading Mosque Proposed To "Ease" Tensions

The first purpose-built mosque is to be built in Reading following an agreement between Muslim leaders and the council.

The £4m needed to build the new mosque on the corner of Wokingham Road and Green Road will have to be raised by the local Muslim community.

"The new Green Road mosque will be available to all Reading's Muslims and will be a facility of which we can all be justly proud," said Mian Saleem.

When the new facility is built the Alexandra Road mosque will be shut.

Facilities at the new building will include a prayer house, washing facilities, smaller prayer houses, a library, conference room, class rooms for male and female students, a meeting centre for older people and parking for 115 vehicles.

David Sutton, leader of Reading Borough Council, said: "These have been complex negotiations between the community leaders from the Alexandra Road mosque, the South Street mosque and others pushing for the new mosque, and I'm pleased we've managed to reach a fair and sensible arrangement.

"The new mosque will be a glorious building, a very classical design with curved arches and a splendid silver dome in the centre.

"We feel comfortable with these plans because the new mosque would have a social, as well as religious, function.

"The people involved have also assured us they will have a very inclusive approach, including the provision of proper facilities for women."

'Patience and understanding'

The agreement is seen as a thawing of relationships between the council and the Muslim community in the town after a Muslim festival was blocked over security fears.

Reading Borough Council stopped the Islam Fair, due to take place on 10 September in Prospect Park in Reading, over "heightened security concerns and community tensions".

At the time Muslim leaders described the decision as "shocking, disturbing and upsetting".

But following the deal over the mosque Mr Saleem, chairman of Pakistani Community Centre, said: "I am particularly grateful to Reading Borough Council for making the land available and for their patience and understanding."

MUSLIM yobs who wrecked a house to stop four brave soldiers moving in after returning from Afghanistan sparked outrage last night.

The house in a village near riot-torn Windsor had BRICKS thrown through windows and was DAUBED with messages of hate.

Four young Household Cavalry officers who had planned to rent it were also the target of phone THREATS.

They were yesterday forced to look elsewhere to live - after top brass warned them against inflaming racial violence near the Queen's Windsor Castle home.

Last night furious Shadow immigration minister Damian Green said: "This is a shocking development."

Colleagues of the officers branded the vandalism a "disgrace". A source at the regiment said:
"These guys have done nothing but bravely serve their country - yet they can't even live where they want in their own country." The £3,000-a-month detached home in picturesque Datchet, Berks, is less than a mile from Windsor Castle. It was attacked as extra police were drafted into Windsor - where battles have raged for days between Asian and white gangs.

On Wednesday a Muslim-run dairy was firebombed.

The young officers - from the same regiment as Prince Harry - had planned to use the four-bed house for rest and recuperation after months risking their lives on the frontline.

Louts struck two days after the four arrived in uniform in an Army Land Rover to view it.

The source said: "A gang of local Muslims set about keeping them away. They hurled bricks through the windows and then wrote offensive graffiti across the front of the house." The vile messages included one in 4ft letters on the drive - warning: "F*** off".

Sources inside Windsor's Combermere Barracks - where the officers are based - confirmed Muslims had made calls threatening the men.

The scandal comes as Tony Blair today pledges the Army in Afghanistan can have ANYTHING it needs to hammer the Taliban. Writing exclusively in The Sun he declares that Our Boys are "the best in the world".

A Household Cavalry insider said of the Muslims'insult to Britain’s heroes: "Everyone in the regiment is really upset. It's one thing coming under attack in Helmand in Afghanistan but quite another getting this abuse in England. The officers were determined to face down the yobs and still move in - but didn't want a race riot on their hands."

Police hunting the vandals confirmed: "One line of inquiry is that it is racially aggravated."

The house's owner Johanna Ledwidge refused to comment beyond saying she was very upset. A shocked neighbour in the quiet street said: "We pride ourselves in this neighbourhood that we welcome all cultures."

Tory MP Philip Davies said of the attack: "This is outrageous.

"If there's anybody who should f*** off it's the Muslims who are doing this kind of thing. Police should pull out the stops to track down these vile thugs."

Sir Andrew Green, director of the think-tank Migrationwatch UK, said: "Incidents like this are absolutely inexcusable and seriously undermine efforts by all sides to achieve integration. Those who choose to live in this country owe a loyalty to Britain."

A spokesman for letting agency Kings, who are marketing the property, said: "It was an isolated case of vandalism. We do not know the reasons behind it."

The Bishop of Dutse (Jigawa State, Nigeria), the Rt Revd Yesufu Lumu, has told the Anglican Communion News Service in a telephone interview that a local conflict between a Christian and Muslim woman escalated into a full blown riot on the streets of the city.

The end result was St Peter's Anglican Cathedral was burned to the ground and the Bishop's office and car port destroyed.

"It was calm during the night," the bishop said, but was very concerned as the "police would not respond to the calls for protection from the Christians."

According to one report the anger was said to have been "sparked off by an alleged blasphemous comment on Prophet Muhammad by a Christian woman, who reportedly spoke in reaction to a similarly irreverent statement about Jesus Christ by a male Muslim."

The Nigerian Provincial Anglican Communications Officer, the Rev Canon AkinTunde Popoola, told ACNS: "All vehicles belonging to the Diocese were also burnt as well as business premises of some church members" during the rioting on 19 September 2006.

The bishop said, "No one was hurt, we are simply praying that the conflict does not spread."

The Anglican Primate of Nigeria, the Rt Rev Peter Akinola, caused controversy some months ago when he suggested that Muslims should not be surprised if some Christians responded to violence with violence.

However, he then distanced himself from these remarks - and other Christian leaders emphasised that violence contradicts the peacemaking way of Jesus.

Then there is the instruction to fight against those who are not of the true faith "until they pay tribute out of hand and are utterly subdued".

All are direct quotations from the Koran, which Muslims believe to be the absolute word of Allah, and which cannot be altered.

If you seek even more ferocious attacks on Christianity and Judaism, you will find them in the Hadith, Islam's other great book of scripture.

Week after week in those lands where Muslims rule and Christians are a minority, the message pours out from the mosques: "God did not have a son."

All the central doctrines of the Christian faith are emphatically denied. Things are said about Jews and Christians, sometimes comparing them to pigs and monkeys, which would attract the attention of the Thought Police if they were uttered here.

Only recently an Afghan was threatened with death - the prescribed punishment under Sharia law - for converting from Islam to Christianity.

Christians in Pakistan live in constant fear of attacks on their churches and their homes, usually following false allegations that someone has burned a Koran.

Coptic Christians in Egypt suffer a similar misery. Christian Arabs who can afford to have been emigrating by the thousands to avoid increasing persecution by their Muslim neighbours.

Hypocritical fury

For years Liberals in the West have spread the myth of "Muslim tolerance". It does not exist and never did. Where Islam rules, other faiths must cringe in humiliated subjection.

These are facts. Is it not astonishing that this militant, angry religion, whose name means not "Peace", but "Submission", whose whole existence is based on the denial and rejection of its rivals, dares to get into a self-righteous rage over an obscure quotation in a dull academic lecture by the head of the Roman Catholic Church?

In Islam it is still the year 1427. They have had no reformation. The more Islamic a state is, the more its women are shrouded and confined, the more its minorities are despised - and the more freedom of thought and speech are crushed.

And yet the deputy leader of Turkey's Islamist ruling party, Salih Kapusuz, attacks the Pope for having "a dark mentality that comes from the darkness of the Middle Ages".

If we bow to this manufactured, hypocritical fury, then we will already have lost one of the most important battles to face us.

While our silly leaders bleat and panic about terror threats, a far greater menace to our free societies comes from the growing power of Islam in our midst.

Much of that power results from the weak-kneed refusal of our own liberal elite to stand up for what is good about our Christian civilisation. Back the Pope.

BERLIN (Reuters) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel defended Pope Benedict on Saturday against allegations that he had attacked Islam as worldwide Muslim fury continued over a speech he made earlier this week.

Merkel told the mass-circulation Bild newspaper in an interview that the German-born Pontiff had been calling for dialogue with other religions.

In a speech on Tuesday during a visit to Germany, the Pope appeared to endorse a Christian view, contested by most Muslims, that the early Muslims spread their religion by violence. But Merkel said his comments had been misinterpreted.

"Whoever criticises the Pope misunderstood the aim of his speech," Merkel was quoted as saying.

"It was an invitation to dialogue between religions and the Pope expressedly spoke in favour of this dialogue ... What Benedict XVI emphasised was a decisive and uncompromising renunciation of all forms of violence in the name of religion."

Muslims around the world have deplored the Catholic leader's remarks and many say he should apologise in person to dispel the impression that he had joined a campaign against their religion.

Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi on Friday defended the Pope's comments and said he did not mean to offend Muslims.

"He should apologise to Muslims," the president of the German Council of Muslims, Ayyub Axel Koehler, told the Neue Presse newspaper on Saturday. "That would be a contribution towards unwinding the tension and creating clarity."

Muslim figures elsewhere also continued to assail the Pope's comments, with one Turkish politician quoted as comparing him to the World War Two dictators of Germany and Italy, Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini.

"How can (the Pope) imply that Muslims are the creators of terrorism in the world while it is the followers of Christianity who have aggressed against every country of the Islamic world?" prominent Saudi cleric Salman al-Odeh said.

"Who attacked Afghanistan and who invaded Iraq? ... The Pope's statements are an attempt to put a religious cover on injustice and political aggression practised by the American administration against Muslims."

"PERSUASIVE APOLOGY" NEEDED

Turkey's nationalist paper Vatan quoted Salih Kapusuz, head of the ruling Justice and Development Party's parliamentary group as saying Benedict's comments stemmed from "a deplorable ignorance that show he does not know the facts about Islam.

"The mentality of the Crusades has returned. (Benedict) will go down in history in the same category as leaders such as Hitler and Mussolini."

Criticism of the Pope was not confined to Muslims. The New York Times said in an editorial on Saturday that he must issue a "deep and persuasive" apology for quotes used in his speech.

"The world listens carefully to the words of any pope. And it is tragic and dangerous when one sows pain, either deliberately or carelessly," the Times said.

"He needs to offer a deep and persuasive apology, demonstrating that words can also heal," it added.

The Pope on Tuesday repeated criticism of the Prophet Mohammad by the 14th century Byzantine Emperor Manuel II Palaeologus, who said everything Mohammad brought was evil "such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached".

The Pope, who used the terms "jihad" and "holy war" in his lecture, added "violence is incompatible with the nature of God and the nature of the soul".

The furore over the speech follows violent protests by some Muslims last year over the publication in a Danish paper of satirical cartoons of Mohammad.

"Now there is the risk that the protests that there were over the cartoon row could begin again," Koehler said. "The indignation should not be allowed to escalate any further."

He said violence would not be justified but added that the Pope's speech was a step backwards in the dialogue between the two religions. He also questioned a visit the Pope plans to make to Turkey.

"I can scarcely believe that the trip to Turkey would be possible against the background of these protests," he said.

GAZA (Reuters) - Two kidnapped journalists for the American Fox News Channel appeared on a new videotape released by their captors on Sunday in the Gaza Strip, saying they had converted to Islam.

Palestinian Interior Minister Saeed Seyam said efforts were under way to secure the release of Fox correspondent Steve Centanni, a 60-year-old American, and New Zealand-born cameraman Olaf Wiig, 36, within hours.

Both journalists appeared to be in good health in the new video. They were seized on August 14 by a previously unknown group called the Holy Jihad Brigades.

The two men were shown separately sitting cross-legged, reading statements announcing that they had converted to Islam. At times in the video they were wearing long Muslim robes.

"I changed my name to Khaled. I have embraced Islam and say the word Allah," Centanni said.

Wiig called on leaders of the West to stop "hiding behind the 'I don't negotiate with terrorists' myth".

Interior Minister Seyam of the governing militant movement Hamas expressed optimism the ordeal for the two reporters would soon be over.

"Efforts are under way with several parties to secure their release within the coming hours," he told Reuters.

The Holy Jihad Brigades claimed responsibility on Wednesday for the kidnapping and had warned the United States to free Muslim prisoners to prevent the captives facing unspecified consequences. The deadline expired on Saturday.

The United States has said it will not make "concessions to terrorists".

A separate statement from the captors said: "They chose Islam and that is a gift that God gives those whom he chooses."

A videotape released on Wednesday showed the two men, dressed in tracksuits, sitting on a blanket in front of a black background. They appeared fairly relaxed and in good health. Both said that they were fine and being treated well.

The kidnapping is the longest-lasting abduction of foreigners in the Palestinian coastal strip in more than a year.

The Hamas-led government has called for the men to be freed while several prominent militant groups in Gaza have denied involvement and also said the men should be freed.

Previous kidnappings of foreigners have usually ended after a few hours, or at most a few days, of captivity.

El Salvador To Move Embassy From Jerusalem

I remember a year or so ago, I was so proud that even though all the major countries didn't have their embassies in Jerusalem (in order to appease the Islamic world), there were a couple of small countries that had the balls to put their embassies in Israel's true capital. Now it seems like all that's gonna change :

El Salvador will move its embassy in Israel from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv, the Foreign Ministry said on Friday, in a move bound to upset Israel and please Arab nations.

El Salvador would have been the only country in the world left with an embassy in Jerusalem after neighboring Costa Rica announced on August 16 it would pull its diplomatic mission out of the city.

A US ally which has a small contingent of troops in Iraq, El Salvador is governed by conservative President Tony Saca, who is of Palestinian Christian descent.

"Considering the current situation in the Middle East, El Salvador has decided to move its diplomatic representation in the state of Israel," The ministry said in a statement.

Israel regards East Jerusalem as part of its "undivided and eternal capital." It captured the eastern part of Jerusalem in the 1967 Middle East war and annexed it in a move not recognized internationally.

The 200,000 Arab residents of East Jerusalem are caught between Israel and an emerging Palestinian state which wants the eastern part of Jerusalem as its future capital.

Costa Rican President Oscar Arias, a former Nobel Peace Prize winner, said earlier this month he made the decision to change the embassy's location to win more friends in the Middle East and comply with UN resolutions.

Hit And Run Cowards Surprised At Mighty David's Response

BEIRUT (Reuters) - The magnitude of the Israeli response to Hizbollah's cross-border operation in July took the Lebanese guerrilla group by surprise, Hizbollah deputy leader Naim Qassem said in an interview published on Saturday.

Qassem told an-Nahar daily that Hizbollah had expected an Israel attack at some stage as part of a joint plan with the United States but it had no indication it would come in July.

"We were expecting the Israelis would respond at the most by bombing for a day or two or some limited attacks or targeting certain places, such that it would not go beyond three days and some limited damage," he said.

After Hizbollah fighters seized two Israeli soldiers on July 12, Israel started bombing Lebanon's civilian infrastructure in a one-month war which displaced more than 900,000 people.

Israeli attacks killed close to 1,200 people in Lebanon, mostly civilians, and did damage worth billions of dollars. Israel lost 157 people, mostly soldiers inside Lebanon.

Qassem said: "Frankly we were surprised by the great size (of the Israeli response) and by this serious attack."

Two days after the war began, Hizbollah learnt that Israel and the United States were planning an attack in September or October. U.S. media have also said the United States was enthusiastic about Israeli plans to strike at Hizbollah.

"Israel was not ready. In fact it wanted to prepare for two or three months more, but American pressure on one side and the Israeli desire to achieve a success on the other ... were factors which made them rush into battle," Qassem said.

The Hizbollah official said the guerrilla group would co-ordinate with the Lebanese army as it moves into parts of south Lebanon dominated by Hizbollah.

But Hizbollah will not give up the concept of resistance against Israel, on the grounds that Israel continues to occupy the Shebaa farms region, holds Lebanese prisoners and overflies Lebanese territory almost every day.

"The justifications for ending it (resistance) are not yet there. When we agree on a defence plan to confront Israel, defining the job of the resistance, the army and the Lebanese people, then we will see what the rules and roles are," he said.

The Shebaa Farms is a small patch of land claimed by Lebanon, but occupied by Israel since it captured the Golan Heights from Syria in the 1967 war. The United Nations deems the territory Syrian until such time as Syria cedes it to Lebanon.

Israel wants the Lebanese army and a strengthened U.N. peace force to disarm Hizbollah and keep it away from the Israeli border, but Qassem said disarmament was an internal Lebanese matter and Hizbollah fighters will stay in their villages.

The army and the United Nations would not go searching for arms but would stop people carrying them in public, Qassem said.

Norway, the country run by left wing cowards who were amongst the first to apologise to the Ummah for allowing their free press to show the dreaded Motoons, seems to have no major issue with one of their leading papers running a caricature of Ehud Olmert depicted as a Nazi war criminal :

Invoking a scene from the film Schindler's List, one of Norway's largest newspapers recently published a political cartoon comparing Prime Minster Ehud Olmert to the infamous commander of a Nazi death camp who indiscriminately murdered Jews by firing at them at random from his balcony.

The caricature by political cartoonist Finn Graff appeared on July 10 in the Oslo daily Dagbladet. It has prompted outrage among the country's small Jewish community and led the Simon Weisenthal Center to submit a protest to the Norwegian government.

In the cartoon, Olmert is likened to SS Major Amon Goeth, the infamous commandant of the Plaszow death camp outside of Krakow, Poland, who was convicted of mass murder in 1946 and hanged for his crimes.

While in charge of Plaszow, Goeth would go out to the balcony on his villa, and engage in target practice by aiming his telescopic rifle and firing at random at Jews imprisoned there, often killing them.

The scene was famously depicted by director Steven Spielberg in his 1993 film, Schindler's List..

In response, the Norwegian Israel Center against Anti-Semitism, an Oslo-based organization comprising Jews and Christians, has appealed to the government to speak out against hatred of Jews.

"We have launched a campaign to get Norwegians to send letters to the minister of justice to make Norway a safer place for Jews," said center founder Erez Urieli by phone from Oslo.

"We should not go underground. We have to take care of anti-Semitism before it becomes dangerous," he said.

Urieli noted that Norwegian society is extremely tolerant and broad-minded, and that many non-Jews had joined in protesting against manifestations of anti-Semitism. "Many Christians support us, and have written to the government to complain about how Jews are treated in Norway. Today, we are standing together, and we can bring about change with the help of our Christian friends," he said.

In a related move, the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles sent a letter last week to Norwegian Ambassador to Washington Knut Vollebaek to express "collective outrage" over the publication of the cartoon for "depicting Israel's Prime Minister Olmert as a Nazi mass murderer."

"We would expect the leadership of your government," wrote the center's Associate Dean Rabbi Abraham Cooper, "to publicly denounce this outrageous verbal anti-Semitic attack that manages simultaneously to denigrate the victims of the Nazi Holocaust and incite hatred against Israel and her supporters in your country."

Amongst The Enemies Of Israel

What makes a Jew stand up and be counted amongst the enemies of Israel? Is it some psychological self-hating personality? A deep yearning to tell non-Jews that 'I'm one of you, not like them'?

Standing up for Israel has never been easy, and these last few weeks have been some of the hardest in recent times. But to have a friend is to be a friend, and friends don't desert each other when the going gets tough. Even when we criticise our friends, the Torah cautions us on how to do it fairly.

All this, of course, escaped the signatories to last week's advert in the Times.

Three hundred Jews shelled out £10,000 to tell the world that Israel alone was wrong and offered advice to us all; demand action from the international community, write to your MP and write to the Israeli embassy.

There then followed a list of the usual suspects, whose advertisement failed to criticise the firing of even one single kassam rocket into Israel or one human bomber. Susie Orbach, Lynne Reid Banks, Ivor Dembina, Miriam Margolyes, Harold Pinter, Mike Rosen, Gillian Slovo and so on - they should hang their heads in shame. What interested us this time is the way the story was reported. When the Neturei Karta movement - that shameful minority of Hasidic rabbonim and their followers - demonstrate and burn flags, the opprobrium is almost tangible. Rabbis supporting Palestinians and rubbing shoulders with suicide bombers with blood on their hands. Outrageous! Disgusting! Appalling!

But, when a largely left-wing rag bag of anti-Zionists calling themselves 'Jews in Britain' castigates Israel and Israelis for activities in Gaza in the national non-Jewish press, failing to mention its context or put any sort of Israeli side, it's merely reported as another story.

When we see the Jews for Justice for Palestinians on the one side, lined up with the Neturei Karta on the other, we, the proud majority of British Jews know we're doing the right thing - standing up for Israel when it counts.

In my opinion this is long overdue and to be honest I'm not sure the goverment will actually put words into actions, but it sure is a good start in the fight against Britainistanisation [yeah, sounded better in my head] :

LONDON (AFP) - The government has moved to ban for the first time two Islamist militant groups based in Britain under new laws prohibiting the glorification of terrorism, officials said.

Home Secretary John Reid named the outlawed groups as Al-Ghurabaa and the Saved Sect, Home Office officials said, adding the groups are to be banned under new glorification criteria introduced in the Terrorism Act 2006.

The Home Office also said it intends to use existing anti-terror laws to ban two international groups, the Baluchistan Liberation Army and Teyrebaz Azadiye Kurdistan.

Reid laid an order in parliament which will make it a criminal offense for a person to belong to or encouragbe support for Al-Gurabaa and the Saved Sect, to arrange meetings in their support or to wear clothes or carry articles in public indicating support or membership.

Mumbai Train Bombs Funded By British Businessmen

Well, there's a surprise. Who'd have thought, after all these years of the government knowing that multiple Islamic charities we're funding suicide terror attacks and other Jihadi acts of war against Israel, that they'd do the same thing against other nations of Infidels. Maybe now they'll realise that waiting to get "eaten" last won't always save you :

SOME of the main fundraisers for the terror group suspected of masterminding the Bombay train bombings are operating from Britain, according to Indian intelligence officials.

The officials accuse Britain of failing to act against a number of wealthy businessmen, who they claim are using bogus charities to funnel up to £8 million a year to Kashmiri militants groups, such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, which remains the main suspect for orchestrating the synchronised bombings that killed 182 people.

Manmohan Singh, the Indian Prime Minister, raised the terror link with Tony Blair at the G8 summit in St Petersburg yesterday, reminding him that India handed over a detailed dossier three years ago identifying 14 men living in Britain and was assured the suspects would be investigated.

"Since then nothing has been done, and the money still coming from Britain helps to pay for the terrorist camps where we believe the bombers were trained and this atrocity was planned," a senior Indian security official said last night.

Gordon Brown pledged that the Treasury would use new laws to shut down terrorist fundraising and ordered that the bank accounts of 54 organisations be frozen, although records show that last year Whitehall only recovered £9,318.

"Britain talks about the need for all nations to get tough together, but more money comes from the UK to Kashmiri terror groups than any other country," the official added.

One of those identified in the dossier is reported to be a Pakistan-born multimillionaire businessman who owns at least two luxury homes in London.

Professor Paul Wilkinson, of the Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence at the University of St Andrews, said: "It is very sad the figure for the money still flowing to the likes of Lashkar has not been substantially reduced by now. It is difficult to track the money trail, but we should put more resources to doing so."

The funding from overseas has helped terror groups to set up a string of new training camps in Bangladesh, close to the border with India.

Al-Qaeda-trained militants are reportedly running up to 13 camps, and MI6 and other Western intelligence agencies have been monitoring the traffic of young recruits to these centres including a number of volunteers based in Britain.

British security agencies had been warning that groups closely linked to al-Qaeda were planning to stage bomb attacks in India, using local sym- pathisers to carry out their operation.

Scores of Indian-based militants are alleged to have attended the al-Qaeda run camps near Bandarban and Chittagong. Security chiefs believe that the mastermind behind the bombing on seven commuter trains used one of these camps in Bangladesh to finalise plans for the attack.

Anti-terrorist officers involved in the hunt for the Bombay bombers travelled to the border town of Tripura yesterday to question 11 men from the port city who were said to have been caught trying to cross back into Bangladesh. The men are believed to be militant members of the outlawed (Student Islamic Movement of India), which police allege helped in the bomb plot.

Teams of armed officers continued with their mass round-ups yesterday, with further raids on a number of shanty towns around Bombay. So far they have detained more than 1,300 men, but the police face mounting public criticism at their failure to arrest anyone involved in the terror network that is believed to have been living in India's financial capital for at least three months.

D. K. Shankaran, the chief secretary of Maharashtra state, of which Bombay is the capital, said last night: "We believe police will be able to zero in on the culprits within a week."

As he left for St Petersburg Mr Singh, said: "We will impress upon the leaders gathered at the G8 summit that the international community must adopt an approach of zero tolerance toward terrorism anywhere."

He also made a thinly veiled attack on Pakistan, which he has blamed for sheltering terrorists, adding: "The international community must isolate and condemn terrorists wherever they attack, whatever their cause and whichever country or group provides them sustenance and support."

Talks planned for Thursday between the countries' foreign ministers were postponed yesterday, with India's Foreign Minister giving warning: "As a result of these terrorist attacks, it is becoming very difficult to take forward the peace process."

Millions are expected to take part in a two-minute silence to be staged in Bombay tomorrow at the time of the first explosion. Bollywood stars who live in the city will join politicians, police and survivors of the attack in a public show of defiance against the terrorists.

The package - which was put together by the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany - was given to the Iranians on June 6 and some details were leaked at the time, but the full proposal showed a broader range of economic, political and energy incentives. It was released late Thursday.

Nothing To Do With Al Qaeda. Nothing To Do With Islam

Cast your mind back a few weeks and you may remember my post refuting the statements made by some that the 7th July bombers had no connection to Al Qaeda and that there was no Islamic ideology behind the attacks.

Well, now a video of one of the other July 7th suicide terrorists, Shehzad Tanweer, has been released. By who you ask? By Al Sahab, the Al Qaeda production company, who used their normal route of getting the video aired via the terrorist news outlet Al Jazeera.

This video of Shehzad Tanweer contains the usual whining and self righteous nonsense that featured in the video of Mohammad Siddique Khan, but alas I haven't had a chance to get hold of the raw clip for you all to see.

Well, that's all for now, but seeing as today is the anniversary of the July the 7th attacks, a day when a group of religous young Muslims followed the fundamentals of their "holy" book and attempted to "instil terror into the hearts of the non-believers" [Quran - 3.151], I would like to say to all the living victims of the terror attacks to be strong and that our thoughts are with you, and to all those who didn't make it may you rest in peace.

German Paper Uncovers Pallywood Staging In Beach Blast Video

Well done to Sued Deutsche for uncovering these Pallywood libels when most if not all of the other newspapers and news outlets around the world were so quick to ride the wave of demonising Israel :

While three major British newspapers published reports contradicting Israel's claims that its military was not responsible for the murder of seven members of the Ghalia family on a Gaza beach over a week ago, a German newspaper casts doubt on the authenticity of pictures taken soon after the bloody incident.

German daily Sued Deutsche, said pictures taken by Zakaria Abu Irbad, 36, a cameramen with the Palestinian independent news agency Ramattan, contradict Palestinian claims that an IDF shell killed the Ghalia family and point to the possibility that the event was staged to hold Israel responsible.

Irbad was the first journalist to arrive at the s cene after the attack and Ramattan sold footage of Hadil weeping on the beach by her dead father to all major news broadcasters.

The newspaper said in footage of the beach taken by an IDF drone at the time of the attack, five craters left by IDF artillery shells could be seen, but that 250 meters away people could also be seen.

The paper said it is strange that although shells exploded 250 meters away from a beach site where Palestinian families congregated, no one was seen running away or panicking.

Irbad told the newspaper he was told of the attack by paramedics who guided him to the scene.

But no paramedics are seen until later in the footage, raising suspicions that he was first to reach the scene.

Moreover, if Irbad was the first to get to the scene, why were most bodies covered by sheets? Who was there first to cover the bodies? The newspaper asked.

'Did girl give instructions to cameraman?'

The newspaper also doubts Irbad's claim that Hadil was not injured because she was in the water when the shell exploded. His footage show her dry and fully clothed.

Another question raised by the newspaper is a shot of a man carrying a rifle next to the dead body of Hadil's father. The newspaper said in earlier footage, the same man was seen lying on the beach among the injured.

The footage also shows paramedics in green clothes and a dozen of bearded men looking for evidence. The newspaper asks whether the men are Hamas affiliates and wonders why they were preoccupied with collecting evidence rather than helping the injured.

Did Hamas men hide evidence from the scene, as claimed by eyewitnesses interviewed by Israeli broadcasters?

The newspaper said Irbad evaded most of the questions addressed to him.

Asked why he didn't try to calm Hadil instead of filming her he said: "She asked me to film her. She wanted to be seen next to her father to show the world the crimes that Israel is committing."

The newspaper finally asks: "Did the shocked 10-year-old girl, who had lost her father minutes earlier, give the cameraman direction instructions?"

Gordon Brown Takes Next Step In Creation Of Britainistan

The socialist chancellor of the exchequer of Great Britain, Gordon Brown, has announced that he would like to make Britain "the gateway to Islamic finance and trade". Sort of like an Islamic Mos Eisley :

London, 13 June (AKI) - Britain's finance minister, Gordon Brown on Tuesday signalled he wants to make London a global centre for the rapidly expanding Islamic finance market - by offering a regulatory and tax environment that will support the creation of financial products for devout Muslims. Brown announced the move in a keynote speech to the Islamic Finance and Trade Conference in London, organised by the country's mainsteam Muslim grouping, the Muslim Council of Great Britain. The defining feature of the Islamic finance industry is that it offers products without interest payments to comply with the Koranic ban on usury.

It was a "realistic and realisable" ambition to make Britain "the gateway to Islamic finance and trade," Brown told the conference. His speech praised "the invaluable contribution of the whole of the Muslim community in Britain... to our prosperity, our society and our culture," and its "entrepreneurial vibrancy and dynamism." Muslims make an "enormous" contribution to the British economy, Brown said.

Islam is Britain's second largest faith and the country has one of the largest Muslim populations (upwards of 1.6 million) in Europe.

Brown's remarks came as investment banks based on the City of London are scrambling to capture a slice of a market estimated to be worth as much as 400 billion dollars worldwide and which is enjoying a a boom on the back of growing oil-wealth in the Middle East, heightened religious sentiment across the Muslim world, and the increasing use of Islamic compliant products such as bonds - sukuks - that are sold to investors globally to finance large banking projects in the Middle East.

"Already, Britain is the largest European trader with many Islamic countries - the largest European investor in Oman, the largest non-Arab investor in Egypt, and second largest global investor in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia," Brown noted.

Britain's trade with Arab countries has grown 60 per cent in the last five years, while at the same time its exports to Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan and Bangladesh grew to nearly 5.52 billion dollars in 2005 and to North Africa to over 1.84 billion dollars, Brown said.

"I, like you, would like Britain's strong economic ties with Muslim countries strengthen still further.. too often our relationship with the Muslim world is described through a prism of conflict and tension," he stated.

"Today British banks are pioneering Islamic banking - London now has more banks supplying services under Islamic principles than any other Western financial centre," Brown said.

Some in Britain hope that the growing involvement of British banks in the Islamic finance sector could provide a non-political platform for cooperation between the Muslim world and the West, according to unnamed officials quoted by Britain's Financial Times newspaper.

In conjunction with the Muslim Council of Great Britain, the government has already carried out tax and regulatory reform to support the development of finance that is compatible with Islamic (Sharia) law, Brown said. The Islamic mortage market grew almost 50 percent last year alone to more than 0.92 billion dollars, he pointed out.

The government has also provided comprehensive consumer protection for Islamic savings and borrowing (Ijara) products, Brown said. Last week, the parliament approved measures in the UK Finance Bill for diminishing musharaka (a form of leasing) and wakala (agency fees, for example on deposit accounts).

A growing number of London banks are involved in the Islamic bond (sukuk) market. "I am pleased that London was the financial centre chosen recently to advise on one of the largest sukuk deals ever done." The main banks invovled in this type of business include HSB, Citigroup, Barclays Capital, Deutsche Bank, BNP Paribas and Standard Chartered, according to the Financial Times.

London is perceived to be the main centre for Islamic investment banking activity outside the Muslim world. However, it will have to fight off competition from centres such as Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, which are scrambling to transform themselves into new financial hubs.

Other conference speakers included Khalfan Karbash, United Arab Emirates finance and industry minister; Ebrahim bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Bahrain minister of finance; Ahmed Mohammed Ali, president of the Islamic Development Bank; and Hussain Ali Al-Abdullah, of the Qatar Investment Authority.

Banking Jihad Update

Another update on the adoption of Shariah banking methods by western banks :

The dramatic growth of Islamic banking and finance appeared to have been confirmed during the recent World Economic Forum in Sharm al-Sheikh in Egypt.

One of Germany's biggest banks, Deutsche Bank, announced a joint venture with Ithmaar Bank of Bahrain and Abraaj Capital of Dubai to launch a $2bn (£1bn) Sharia-compliant financial fund.

The banks say the fund is designed to boost education initiatives and investment in media and energy companies, and infrastructure in the Middle East.

More and more conventional international banks, such as Citibank, HSBC and UBS, are converting some of their services to interest-free Islamic finance models.

Estimates of the value of Islamic banking internationally range from $200bn to $500bn.

Some financial analysts are concerned that the increase in Islamic banking opens Western financial institutions to influence informed by a conservative Islamic agenda.

But many bankers at the World Economic Forum were upbeat about a growing success story of banking services which they argue are a fairer and more ethical way to handle financial affairs.

No interest

"I am very proud our baby is growing," says Alexander Theocharides, a director with Faisal Finance, the first Islamic bank in Switzerland.

"The volume of Islamic Finance has now reached approximately $500bn and we are witnessing an annual growth of about 10%."

"We want to make the concept of this kind of ethical investment available to the West," Mr Theocharides explains. "Everybody, non-Muslims included, can take advantage of Islamic finance products."

Other than the Gulf region, Switzerland and Malaysia are now the hubs of Islamic finance.

Banks that are Sharia-compliant do not charge or pay interest and they do not finance projects that are considered not to comply with the principles of Sharia - such as investments in gambling, alcohol production and so on.

The business model of Islamic finance is based on partnership and not on "riba", usurious interest taking, which is forbidden in the Koran. However even though they don't charge interest, Islamic banks are generally not charity organisations.

The customer and the Islamic bank share the risk of any investment on agreed terms, and divide any profits between them.

Standard practice

Supporters of Islamic banking see a potential market of more than a billion Muslims in the world, many of them seeking financial institutions which reflect their religious beliefs.

Financial analysts say that Middle Eastern clients have over recent years transferred billions of dollars out of conventional Western banks. Many feared being caught up in strict new financial regulations being passed in the wake of the 9/11 attacks.

Err, such as regulations not allowing the funding of the worldwide Armed Jihad?

Islamic banks say they have benefited from this.

Another issue for investors has been the fact that so far there is no standard law or practice for Islamic finance and banking.

Scholars in Malaysia and other Islamic countries are working on building a consensus on practice.

It is also the case that in more conservative countries, such as Saudi Arabia, the taking and paying of interest is less accepted than in more liberal Islamic countries, such as Egypt or Jordan.

Many Middle Eastern Islamic banks are more social or co-operative banks in the West.

Charity is a core value, or pillar, of Islam. Every Muslim is obliged to pay "Zakat", a payment of 2.5% of his annual income to benefit the poor.

Helping the poor. Like the poor "palestinians" who need money desperately for suicide belts, rockets, AK ammo etc... [Zakat is distributed to a number of groups, one of those groups are referred to as 'Fisabillillah' - "One who strives for the cause of Allah", such as slaughtering infidels]

Engku Rabiah Adawiah Engku Ali, a professor of the International Islamic University of Malaysia hopes that growth of Islamic banking will help to create a better distribution of wealth in the Islamic world.

"Greed is a problem. We have to keep reminding ourselves not to follow greed", she says.

The following extract is from a New Statesman by Brendan O'Neill in which he criticizes "Londonistan", a recently released book by Melanie Phillips :

Poor Melanie Phillips. Her new book, Londonistan, which argues that the London attacks of 7 July 2005 were the culmination of a sinister Islamist conspiracy to infiltrate Britain and bring our civilisation to its knees, has hit the shelves just a few weeks after the government's report into the bombings revealed that, in fact, they were the work of four ordinary blokes with no clear links to al-Qaeda. What Phillips presents as the handiwork of "clerical fascism" looks increasingly like Britain's Columbine, a murderous stunt executed by four bored and overgrown adolescents who had nothing better to do.

So let's clear that up ;

1) These were four ordinary guys

2) No links to Al-Qaeda

3) They blew themselves up because they "had nothing better to do"

But why should we take Mr O'Neill's word for it? Let's hear what the ringleader of the attack and one of Al-Qaeda's top brass has to say on the July 7th terrorist attacks :

Mohammad Siddique Khan confesses to London attacks. States that Islamic Jihadism, fighting for the Ummah, achieving Shahada, Islamic conquest [fighting the Kufr/non-believers] were his beliefs and ideology for the attacks. Al-Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri claims responsibility for the London attacks [click the picture to watch the video]

If you watch the videos you may notice that they carry the same logo. This is the logo of Al-Sahab, the Al-Qaeda video production company. In the original video of Khan's confession was a longer version of Zawahiri's claims.

So once again for Mr O'Neill.

1) The boys [ringleader at least] were driven by a violent and hostile ideology.

2) Al Qaeda claim responsibility, Khan's video will uses the Al-Qaeda production company logo and Khan's will was released in compilation form to Jihadist websites by the production company.

3) They carried out the attacks in the name of their beliefs, not because they "had nothing better to do".

In fact, I'm ashamed I even had to answer that last point and I'm repulsed that Mr O'Neill would suggest that this terror cell blew up three tube trains and one bus simply because they "had nothing better to do".

This is where I have to leave it for now, but if you read through the rest of O'Neill's article you'll see that it's one big whitewash for the Islamic terrorist ideologies, mindsets and activities that are blossoming right under our noses in the UK. CIA Hid Knowledge Of Eichman's Whereabouts

Although as some news outlets are reporting, this wasn't all due to CIA interests. This was done at the request of the former Nazis, ZEE JERMANS :

The Central IntelligenceAgency took no action after learning the pseudonym and whereabouts of the fugitive Holocaust administrator Adolf Eichmann in 1958, according to C.I.A. documents released Tuesday that shed new light on the spy agency's use of former Nazis as informants after World War II.

The C.I.A. was told by West German intelligence that Eichmann was living in Argentina under the name Clemens - a slight variation on his actual alias, Ricardo Klement - but did not share the information with Israel, which had been hunting for him for years, according to Timothy Naftali, a historian who examined the documents. Two years later, Israeli agents abducted Eichmann in Argentina and flew him to Israel, where he was tried and executed in 1962.

The Eichmann papers are among 27,000 newly declassified pages released by the C.I.A. to the National Archives under Congressional pressure to make public files about former officials of Adolf Hitler's regime later used as American agents. The material reinforces the view that most former Nazis gave American intelligence little of value and in some cases proved to be damaging double agents for the Soviet K.G.B., according to historians and members of the government panel that has worked to open the long-secret files.

Elizabeth Holtzman, a former congresswoman from New York and member of the panel, the Nazi War Crimes and Japanese Imperial Government Records Interagency Working Group, said the documents showed that the C.I.A "failed to lift a finger" to hunt Eichmann and "force us to confront not only the moral harm but the practical harm" of relying on intelligence from ex-Nazis.

The United States government, preoccupied with the cold war, had no policy at the time of pursuing Nazi war criminals. The records also show that American intelligence officials protected many former Nazis for their perceived value in combating the Soviet threat.

Holtzman, speaking at a news briefing at the National Archives on Tuesday, said information from the former Nazis was often tainted both by their "personal agendas" and their vulnerability to blackmail. "Using bad people can have very bad consequences," said Holtzman. She and other group members suggested that the findings should be a cautionary tale for intelligence agencies today.

As head of the Gestapo's Jewish affairs office during the war, Eichmann put into effect the policy of extermination of European Jewry, promoting the use of gas chambers and having a hand in the murder of millions of Jews. Captured by the United States Army at the end of the war, he gave a false name and went unrecognized, hiding in Germany and Italy before fleeing to Argentina in 1950.

So in the words of the leader of the PA, it was the invading Arab armies who forced the Arabs out of Israel in '48.

Now PMW brings us a few more quotes from Arabs who fled Israel, and the real reasons behind their departure :

The following are three statements corroborating that Arabs fled Israel, under instructions of the Arab leaders:

1. Woman who fled Israel in 1948

"We heard sounds of explosions and of gunfire at the beginning of the summer in the year of the Nakbah [1948]. They told us: The Jews attacked our region and it is better to evacuate the village and return, after the battle is over. And indeed there were among us [who fled Israel] those who left a fire burning under the pot, those who left their flock [of sheep] and those who left their money and gold behind, based on the assumption that we would return after a few hours."

2. Son and grandson of those who fled in 1948

An Arab viewer called Palestinian Authority TV and quoted his father and grandfather, complaining that in 1948 the Arab District Officer ordered all Arabs to leave Palestine or be labeled traitors. In response, Arab MK Ibrahim Sarsur, then Head of the Islamic Movement in Israel, cursed the leaders who ordered Arabs to leave, thus, acknowledging Israel's assertion.

Statement of son and grandson of man who fled:

"Mr. Ibrahim [Sarsur]. I address you as a Muslim. My father and grandfather told me that during the "Catastrophe" [establishment of Israel in 1948], our district officer issued an order that whoever stays in Palestine and in Majdel [near Ashkelon- Southern Israel] is a traitor, he is a traitor."

Response from Ibrahim Sarsur, Head of the Islamic Movement in Israel:

"The one who gave the order forbidding them to stay there bears guilt for this, in this life and the Afterlife throughout history until Resurrection Day."
[PA TV April 30, 1999].

3. Article by senior PA journalist

Fuad Abu Higla, then a regular columnist in the official PA daily Al Hayat Al Jadida, wrote an article before an Arab Summit, which criticized the Arab leaders for a series of failures. One of the failures he cited, in the name of a prisoner, was that an earlier generation of Arab leaders "forced" them to leave Israel in 1948, again placing the blame for the flight on the Arab leaders.

"I have received a letter from a prisoner in Acre prison, to the Arab summit:
To the [Arab and Muslim] Kings and Presidents, Poverty is killing us, the symptoms are exhausting us and the souls are leaving our body, yet you are still searching for the way to provide aid, like one who is looking for a needle in a haystack or like the armies of your predecessors in the year of 1948, who forced us to leave [Israel], on the pretext of clearing the battlefields of civilians... So what will your summit do now?"
[Al-Hayat Al-Jadidah, March 19, 2001]

Conclusion

It is clear from these statements that there is general acknowledgement among Palestinians that Arab leaders bear responsibility for the mass flight of Arabs from Israel in 1948, and were the cause of the "refugee" problem. Furthermore, the fact that this information has been validated by public figures and the media in the Palestinian Authority confirms that this responsibility is well-known - even though, for propaganda purposes, its leaders continue to blame Israel publicly for "the expulsion."

The following is a reasonably candid account of the women's Jihadist movement in Kashmir from the Islamic point of view. The BBC presents it all in a very matter of fact way and seems to miss out their usual opinions and critisisms that they regularly include in their articles that attack "western" ideologies and belief systems :

In Srinagar's Zakoorah Khwaja Bagh area, a crowd of 50 has gathered in a makeshift tent.

The audience, made up of women and children, sits cross-legged on carpets. A small woman, fully veiled, sits on a chair, giving a very charged speech.

"You need to protect your daughters," she tells the gathering.

Heads nod in agreement. The anguish on some faces is transparent. One elderly woman wipes her tears.

The speaker is Asiya Andrabi, leader of Kashmir's separatist women's organisation, Dukhtaran-e-Milat, or Daughters of the Faith.

Today's speech, says Ms Andrabi, is to raise awareness among the women about a recent sex scandal that has rocked the Kashmir valley.

'Reform movement'

Ms Andrabi, who has been leading protests against the scandal, is an excellent orator. The daughter of a physician and a housewife, she has had a long career in the limelight.

After graduating in 1981 from Kashmir University, she wanted to go to Dalhousie, in the neighbouring state of Himachal Pradesh, to study chemistry.

But her brother's refusal to let her travel out of Kashmir was the turning point in her life. She says it led her to a book in her father's library about the inner feelings of women.

"When I read it, I was shocked to realise how little I knew about Islam, about the status of women in Islam."

So, she learnt Arabic and studied the holy Koran. And in 1982, she started a part-time school to teach girls the tenets of Islam.

"Dukhtaran started as a reform movement for Muslim women in Kashmir," says the well-known Kashmiri journalist, Shujaat Bukhari.

'A nice militant'

Ms Andrabi's first brush with the authorities came in March 1987. "We took out a procession chanting slogans against nudity and the exploitation of women," she says.

Ms Andrabi and her band of supporters also went around blackening posters and hoardings depicting women. They also demanded separate seats for women in buses.

"That day our office was sealed, documents and books were seized, our landlord was arrested, my parents were threatened and the police raided my house."

Ms Andrabi went underground for 21 days.

When the anti-India movement started in Kashmir in 1989, she was one of the first to offer support.

"I was very glad to see our boys come out to fight with India," she says. "We told them we are with you. If you go for jihad, we'll support your women."

Her group was banned in 1990 for supporting militancy and a year later, she went underground again - this time for 14 years.

In this period, she got married to Mohammad Qasim and bore him two sons. "He was a very nice militant," she says, describing him as a man of principles.

Qasim, a former "commander" of the separatist group Jamiat-ul Mujahideen, is serving a life sentence in Srinagar Central Jail.

Activism and imprisonment

Ms Andrabi is clear that a Hindu "Brahmin India" has no legitimate claims over Kashmir.

"Our strong belief is that Kashmir should be part of Pakistan," she says. "We believe in Muslim unity. There's no nation in Islam, and Muslims shouldn't be divided into countries."

Ms Andrabi is not afraid to be labelled a fundamentalist. "I believe in the basic fundamentals of Islam. You can call me a fundamentalist if you like, I'm proud to be that."

"I don't believe in secularism, I don't believe that all the religions are good and that they're all based on truth."

Over the past two decades, Ms Andrabi has led campaigns against alcohol and prostitution in Kashmir.

She has played an important role in closing down cinemas, accused television channels of corrupting the youth and has raided internet cafes and restaurants for allowing young couples to meet privately.

For her activism, Andrabi has been in and out of jail many times.

Recently, she accused beauty parlours of promoting obscenity, describing them as dens of prostitution. She issued an ultimatum, asking them to shut shop.

"A woman can beautify herself, but only for her husband," she tells me. "My husband says I have beautiful eyes and he loves them when I use kohl."

But I don't use kohl even before my brother. I use it only when I'm with my husband. It's only his right. He alone can tell me what he likes or doesn't like."

'Virtuous Muslim'

It is because of such views that Dukhtaran-e Milat does not have much popular support, despite having been around for 25 years.

"Dukhtaran-e-Milat is an extremist organisation and I think it's base is limited mostly to educated Muslim women in Kashmir," says Shujaat Bukhari.

"Ms Andrabi has a strong, committed group of women who are part of her organisation," he says.

"But they have a presence only in Srinagar - outside in the rural areas we haven't seen much support for them. "

Ms Andrabi says this is because she refuses to dilute her ideology. "I'm not a hypocrite like most politicians. I believe in Islam and we have very strict rules for membership," she says.

"When I'm satisfied a girl is a virtuous Muslim who strongly believes in the oneness of Islam, we take her as a member."

Ms Andrabi has often been accused of using force in her campaigns and although she denies the charge, many in Srinagar say they are afraid to speak about her on record.

A well-known writer and social activist says: "There's no flexibility in her approach."

"She needs a broader perspective. She should lighten up. I've known her for a long time but I'm afraid of her."

LONDON (Reuters) - A leading Anglican bishop on Saturday attacked the trend towards what he called a multi-faith mish-mash in ethnically diverse Britain, and said it was time to reassert the country's Christian identity.

Bishop of Rochester Michael Nazir-Ali also questioned Prince Charles's desire to be seen as a defender of all faiths, not just Christianity, when he takes over as monarch.

Pakistani-born Nazir-Ali, whose family background is both Christian and Muslim, pitched into an emotive debate about national identity in a country deeply shocked last year when four British Islamic militants killed 52 people in attacks on London's transport system.

The bishop argued that the basis of British society, from the monarchy to its laws, was "Christian constitutionally".

"All our values come ultimately from the Bible," he told BBC radio.

"People of other faiths recognise this and they are not often the ones asking for a multi-faith mish-mash. They recognise the value of Britain being a Christian country," he said.

He has complained that the Church had come under increasing pressure to convert chapels in places such as prisons and hospitals into neutral venues that could be used by people of all faiths.

As the future titular head of the Church of England, Prince Charles has said he would like to be known as "Defender of Faith" rather than "Defender of the Faith."

Bishop Nazir-Ali took issue with the heir to the throne, saying: "The coronation service is such that whoever takes the oaths actually takes oaths to defend the Christian faith."

"You can't defend every faith because there are very serious differences among them," he added.

He stressed that "to be a distinctively Christian country does not necessarily mean that we don't welcome other people".

Reflecting on Nazir-Ali's view, religious commentator Clifford Longley said: "He is an evangelical and they are the ones most reluctant to agree there is anything in any other religion except Christianity."

"I am not saying this is bigotry but this is the core of where he is coming from," Longley told Reuters, arguing that mainstream Anglicanism in Britain demonstrated a more inclusive approach to other religions.

Pakistani Christian Arrested For "Blasphemous" Texts

A Pakistani Christian has been arrested because he sent blasphemous text messages to Muslims from his mobile phone, police say.

Qamar David, a hospital canteen worker, was upset about attacks on churches in Pakistan, a police chief said.

A court in the southern city of Karachi remanded Mr David in custody pending a further court appearance next month.

Blasphemy can carry the death sentence in Pakistan although no-one has ever been executed for the crime.

Arbitrary law

"He was sending blasphemous messages to Muslims and was causing panic," Karachi police chief Niaz Ahmed Siddiqui told news agency Reuters.

"He says he did this as he was upset with attacks on churches in the country."

Police officer Imran Minhas said Mr David confessed to sending insulting messages about Islam and Prophet Muhammad.

Although no-one has ever been executed for blasphemy, human rights groups have criticised the law.

They say the law is often misused to settle personal vendettas and arguments over property or money, particularly against minority communities.

"It's an arbitrary law, which has been badly misused by extremists and should be abolished," activist Asma Jehangir told news agency AFP.

When informed that the swastika symbol predated the Nazis by 6000 years, and that it has also been long-used by Hindus and Jains, as well as among other cultures prior to the rise of the Nazis, Mr. Foxman, enraged, pounded on a table and screamed, "Death to them all, then!" He continued, "There is already precedent for defense against Buddhism, and the world will forget in five minutes anyway."

Jewish religious leaders elsewhere led mobs of fanatical worshippers, chanting: "Off with their heads!" On Red Square in Moscow, Russia, a rabbi leading a thousand-strong street protest stated, "Those Asian sign makers must be cut into as many pieces as the number of signs they produced." A chief rabbi in Munich, Germany, declared: "G-d will accept nothing less than dismemberment, and this is our last word.

In response to these recent outbursts of rage and violence, the U.S. Department of State apologized on behalf of Buddhists worldwide for the "insensitivity in which this symbol has been used", and U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan urged Jewish leaders to accept the State Department's apologies: "I appeal to the Jewish people to accept the apologies, and to forgive the wrong they have suffered."

Asian Lynch Gang Jailed

If you can cast your mind back to the end of last year, you will remember the racist murder of Isiah Young-Sam who was killed by an Asian Muslim gang.
Well, I can now report justice has been partially served after 3 members of the gang received at least 25 years in jail :

Three Asian men have received life sentences for the murder of a black IT worker attack during race riots in the Lozells area of Birmingham last year.

Waqar Ahmed, 26, Azhil Khan, 23, and Afzal Khan, 22, all from the Handsworth area of the city, were told they would each serve a minimum of 25 years in jail for the fatal stabbing of Isiah Young-San during disturbances on October 22.

Sentencing the trio at Birmingham Crown Court, Mr Justice Mackay said the 23-year-old victim had been set upon for no other reason than the colour of his skin.

Mr Justice Mackay said: "The four men (Mr Young-Sam, his brother and two friends) were set upon because they were Afro-Caribbean and for no other reason.

"They had done nothing to these defendants and done nothing to incur or justify hostility.

"What led to the death of Isiah Young-Sam was the colour of his skin."

The judge continued: "(These defendants) were fuelled by the mob violence which they could have resisted, could have turned away from, which they failed to do."

Asking the defendants to stand, Mr Justice Mackay said: "You've been convicted of a most serious offence, the murder of Isiah Young-Sam, a young man with great promise who had done you no harm.

"Your action was racially aggravated and you are also party to the grievous wounding of his companion.

"The sentence for murder is fixed by law and is one of life imprisonment."

The defendants were each jailed for 10 years after being found guilty of a separate charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to Locksley Byfield. These jail terms were to run concurrently.

Mr Young-Sam, 23, was stabbed in the heart as he walked through Lozells with his brother and two friends on the evening of October 22.

The group had decided to take a back route to avoid the trouble - which flared after unsubstantiated rumours were spread about a local West Indian girl being gang-raped by Asian men - when they were pursued by the defendants and attacked.

Mr Young-Sam was set upon by a group of up to six men, who appeared from two or three cars wearing hoodies and bandanas, armed with knives and bats and shouting racist abuse.

It took the jury 12 hours to reach its unanimous verdict on all counts.

There was sobbing in the public gallery as the defendants were jailed and shouts of "they're innocent" from family members.

Christian Children Rescued From Islamic Slave Traders

THE slave traders came for 10-year-old Akash Aziz as he played cops and robbers in his dusty village in eastern Punjab.

Akash, still in the maroon V-neck sweater and tie that he had worn to school that day, was a "robber". But as he crouched behind a wall, waiting for the schoolfriend designated as the "cop" to find him, a large man with a turban and a beard grabbed him from behind and clamped a cloth over his nose and mouth before he could cry for help.

He recalls a strange smell and a choking sensation. "Then I fainted," said Akash, a delicate little child from a loving family that takes pride in his enthusiasm for English lessons at school.

Akash woke up in a dark room with a bare brick floor and no windows. The heat was suffocating. As he languished there over the next month, 19 other panic-stricken boys were thrown into the room with him.

The children, all Christians, had fallen into the hands of Gul Khan, a wealthy Islamic militant and leading member of Jamaat-ud Daawa (JUD), a group linked to the Al-Qaeda terrorist network.

Khan lives near Pakistan's border with Afghanistan, but when in the Punjab he stays at the JUD's headquarters in Muridke, near Lahore, where young men can be seen practising martial arts with batons on rolling green lawns patrolled by guards with Kalashnikovs. Osama Bin Laden funded the centre in the late 1990s.

The JUD, which claims to help the poor, says that it has created a "pure Islamic environment" at Muridke that is superior to western "depravity". Khan's activities explode that myth. He planned to sell his young captives to the highest bidder, whether into domestic servitude or the sex trade. The boys knew only that they were for sale.

This is the story of the misery that Akash and his friends, aged six to 12, endured in captivity; of their rescue by Christian missionaries who bought their freedom and tried to expose the kidnappers; and of the children's moving reunions with their loved ones who had believed they were dead.

Human rights groups are raising alarms over a new law passed by the Iranian parliament that would require the country's Jews and Christians to wear coloured badges to identify them and other religious minorities as non-Muslims.

"This is reminiscent of the Holocaust," said Rabbi Marvin Hier, the dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles. "Iran is moving closer and closer to the ideology of the Nazis."

Iranian expatriates living in Canada yesterday confirmed reports that the Iranian parliament, called the Islamic Majlis, passed a law this week setting a dress code for all Iranians, requiring them to wear almost identical "standard Islamic garments."

The law, which must still be approved by Iran's "Supreme Guide" Ali Khamenehi before being put into effect, also establishes special insignia to be worn by non-Muslims.

Iran's roughly 25,000 Jews would have to sew a yellow strip of cloth on the front of their clothes, while Christians would wear red badges and Zoroastrians would be forced to wear blue cloth.

"There's no reason to believe they won't pass this," said Rabbi Hier. "It will certainly pass unless there's some sort of international outcry over this."

Norway on Tuesday said it has granted an entry visa to a Hamas representative and was processing the application of another as part of a planned visit that has angered Israel.

Palestinians Salah Muhammad al-Bardawil and Mohammad al-Rantissi were invited to Norway by the national Palestine Committee. They were originally expected to arrive on May 15, but their visit was delayed as their visa applications were being processed.

The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration said one of them was granted a so-called Schengen visa, which allows free travel in 15 European nations, while the other request was still under review. In keeping with its policy of confidentiality in individual cases, the directorate refused to say which one had been granted a visa.

Earlier this month, Israel warned Norway that giving entry visas to the two Hamas representatives would be considered a "political gesture."

The two were previously denied a Schengen visa by France. Both the European Union and the United States consider Hamas, which won Palestinian elections earlier this year, a terrorist group.

Norway is not an EU member, but is part of the Schengen area.

"The application was presented to the Schengen nations, and there were no objections," the directorate said about the approved visa. "For the other applicant, whose earlier applications for a Schengen visa had been rejected, the deadline for comment lasts a few more days."

The announcement came a day after Atef Adwan, the refugee minister in the new Hamas government, completed a three-day visit to Norway. Norwegian political leaders refused to meet him in keeping with a policy of shunning direct contact with Hamas.

All three visits stirred debate in Norway about whether government members should meet Hamas, and, if so, at what level. The government has said it will not meet any of them at a cabinet level.

A new date for the visit by one or both Palestinians was pending.

Hamas Terrorist Minister Makes Diplomatic Visit To Germany

Here I was thinking that Germany had a major problem with members of organisations that call for the extermination of Jews :

BERLIN, May 17 (UPI) -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel is angry that a minister from militant group Hamas visited Germany on a Schengen visa and met with lawmakers there.

"The chancellor has clearly expressed her anger over this incident," Thomas Steg, Merkel's deputy spokesman, Wednesday told his regular news conference. "This minister is an unwanted person in Germany."

Adwan on Tuesday met with Detlef Dzembritzki, a foreign policy expert of the Social Democrats, Merkel's partners in government, and two other unidentified parliament members, Die Welt writes in its Thursday issue.

Atef Adwan, Palestine's refugee minister, arrived in Germany from Norway on a Schengen visa issued by Sweden, despite Berlin's appeal to the Swedish government not to grant him one, Die Welt said.

A Schengen visa grants its bearer unrestricted travel within the European Union and other countries that have signed the Schengen accord.

Berlin will not establish contacts with Hamas unless it recognizes Israel, renounces violence and agrees to back the roadmap for peace, Steg added.

Adwan has since left Germany, Steg said.

A couple of days ago, self-hating Jewish businessman Philip Green proved his "impartiality" by donating £60,000 to a "palestinian" children's charity. Technically it wasn't a donation but a bid in an auction to kiss coke fiend Kate Moss, which he ended up passing over to fellow self-hating Jew Jemima Khan :

Not if you were retail billionaire Philip Green. After winning a bidding war for the kiss at a charity auction, the Bhs boss proceeded to give it away – to his rival Jemima Khan.

Mind you, Mr Green may not have been quite as silly as first appears. Not only did he get to watch the 32- year-old supermodel snog another woman, he also earned Brownie points with his wife, Tina, who was also at the celebrity-studded event.

Green, 54, looked on as the two women locked lips at Central London celebrity hangout Annabel's. One guest said: 'We thought it was going to be a kiss on the cheek but it lasted over 60 seconds.

'A few people were a bit shocked but everybody was laughing afterwards.' Khan's boyfriend Hugh Grant did not seem to mind either, especially after another bidder paid £12,000 for a round of golf with him. A cricket lesson with the 32-year-old's ex-husband Imran was also offered as one of the lots.

The auction raised more than £200,000 for the Hoping Foundation which helps Palestinian refugee children. Guests included Jade Jagger, Sadie Frost and Jerry Hall.

Iran Ponders Islamic National Uniform

The Iranian parliament authorized most of the clauses of the "national uniform law" - one of the government projects suggested by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad before parliament.

According to a report in the London-based Arabic-language newspaper al-Sharq al-Awsat, the law is supposed to replace what is termed "Western" dress from the streets of Iranian cities, and advance "Islamic" dress.

According to the new law, economic relief for local clothing designers will be granted so that they can "concentrate on clothing matching the national and Islamic identity of Iran."

It was also reported that Iranian authorities are expected to establish a joint committee that will include representatives from the Culture and Trade Ministry, the Culture Committee, parliament, and government television, in order to decide how the new clothes will look.

It was also reported that the Iranian Trade Ministry has been ordered to apply additional taxes on imported clothes so that Iranian banks are forced to agree to grant loans and financial benefits to local clothing makers.

Iranian men are today allowed to wear "Western" clothes, except a tie - which is forbidden according to the law. Women must follow far stricter laws, including a mandatory head covering, and a ban on clothes that expose the body.

The Iranian news network IRIB reported that the new law has yet to be presented in its final version and that the Legislative Council, the highest Iranian monitoring body, has yet to approve it.

Anyone For Some Double Speak?

In light of the July 7th attacks, various riots, cartoon death rallies [etc...], the government has decided to introduce citizenship classes (amongst other new gimmicks) to help the youth of this country understand core British values and lead them away from extremism :

In response to last year's London bombings, ministers want to review the current citizenship classes in schools, in an attempt to make society more unified.

Education minister Bill Rammell hopes a debate about the values shared by all communities across society - such as freedom, fairness, civil responsibilities and democracy - will help to tackle extremism and discrimination.

A second review will look at the teaching of Islam in universities.

Will the measures work?

This BBC article contains views from varied politicians, education and public figures. One persons view caught my eye though. That person would be Harris Bokhari, of the Muslim Association of Britain :

"This is just another one of those knee-jerk reactions where we're not actually looking at the core problem. What was the reason why these people actually committed these disgusting acts?

"Unfortunately it was our foreign policy, it was the issue of the illegal war, the illegal occupation of Iraq, the war in Afghanistan, the continuing abuses of the Palestinian people, the illegal occupation of Palestine by the Israeli state.

"So I think until the government actually addresses these issues unfortunately we'll keep on having these problems in the UK particularly."

So let's clear that up. We all know (as the MCB and MAB repeatedly told us) that the July 7th attacks had nothing to do with Islam. Yet he seems to know in detail all the reasons [excuses] a Muslim terrorist would use to justify an attack again non-Muslims in the UK. Of course, he isn't justifying the attacks. No, that would be too obvious. He's just pointing out that he holds the same ideology as a suicide terrorist, much like the ones that blew themselves up on July 7th, and if we don't listen to what he says, then what??? Can we expect more suicide terror attacks?
It's people and groups like the MAB that are the real problem here. They mix up right and wrong, and they make it publicly acceptable to not only sympathise with terrorists, but to hold exactly the same beliefs as them.

Racism I Tells Ya

What is racism? Is it racist when Israel, with it's 20% non-Jewish mostly Arab minority population won't open it's doors to a flood of "palestinian" Muslims who marry Israeli Muslims (as one of many wives) to gain a backdoor into the "racist" state of Israel for a better life. Yeah, confusing isn't it. Israel, the "little Satan", land of "racism", evil Zionists, right-wing extremist Jews seems to attract the people who hate the Jewish state the most.
Of course, it isn't racism when the 21st century's Nazi wannabes (the "palestinian" Muslims) make it official "state" policy to ensure all their precious desert land must be ethnically cleansed of Jews and all Jewish existence.
Anyway, back to the article in question. The Israeli high court has voted, by a small margin, not to open the doors to any random "palestinian" Muslim who marries an Israeli, what I like to call "population Jihad" (or using the infidels laws to over-run them).
While the BBC and the like have come to the conclusion that this is some sort of Jewish racist conspiracy to be mean to the poor innocent helpless Muslims of an enemy "state", the article below points out some very important factors, such as the large number of Muslim terrorists that used the old marriage laws to gain access to Israel in order to slaughter Jewish civilians :

Israel's High Court has upheld the government's right to combat the growth of a radicalized Arab fifth column by denying some Palestinian Arabs the right to live within sovereign Israel with their Israeli Arab spouses.

The government first introduced the "family unification" amendment to Israel's Citizenship Law in 2002, at the height of the Oslo War, as a means of thwarting infiltration by terrorist elements.

Despite a rash of petitions by "human rights" organizations, ultra-leftist Jewish and Arab Knesset members, and a number of Israeli-Palestinian couples, a panel of 11 justices voted 6-5 Sunday in favor of keeping the amendment.

Arab MKs immediately issued unfounded cries of "racism!"

But State Attorney Yochi Gansin noted that out of the 146 successful terror attacks executed prior to the implementation of the law, 26 were carried out by Palestinian Arabs who had gained entered to sovereign Israel by virtue of their marriage to local Arabs.

Speaking to Ynet, Gansin said:

"This law is legitimate as a way to deal with this phenomenon."
Justice Mishael Cheshin, the most senior justice to vote in favor of the law, expressed similar sentiment during a debate on the matter in February.

"...are the State of Israel's defensive efforts against terror attacks, against lone individuals carrying out attacks not a sufficient enough reason to prevent their entry?

"Why should we take chances during wartime? Did England and America take chances with Germans seeking their destruction during the Second World War?"
Giving the lie to the Arab MKs' racism charge, the law does not deny the ability to start and grow a family for those whose true desire is to do so. Rather, it bans "Palestinian" husbands under the age of 35 (25 for wives) from seeking Israeli citizenship.

For those who cannot live with these restrictions, Cheshin offered an alternative:

"No one is preventing them from building a family but they should live in Jenin instead of in [the Israeli Arab city of] Umm al-Fahm."
Touching on the true motivation behind the law, Cheshin continued:

"The romance is touching but we are talking about life and death and the right to life takes priority."

Jew With Pride = Far Right Religous Racist Homophobic Fanatic

One thing I've noticed over the this past year of blogging is that there is nothing Jew-haters (and self hating Jews) hate more than a Jew who doesn't like to fade into the crowd. It really riles their blood when a Jew [an orthodox one at that] has the "nerve" to stand up for what he believes in, or who "dares" to resist the attempts of the "liberal" establishment to erase all visible religion and to supress religous learning/expression [except when it comes to the Religion O' Peace of course].
Well, before I bore you all to death, I'll get to the point. The Evening Standard [usually one of the few papers I will read] has an article by a Johann Hari [the genderless dope to the left in the picture below], and he seems to have his blood boiling all over the fact that one of those proud Jews has the nerve to sing and become popular at it.
Now, before anyone jumps down my neck, here is a video of Matisyahu singing, and I'd like you to let me know if you consider his unusual, yet catchy form of Reggae seems to be an open rallying call as the author puts it.

Preaching hatred to the rhythm of rap...

It's not a joke. Matisyahu - the ultra-Orthodox rapping Rabbi from New York City - is not Sacha Baron Cohen with a new character. He really is a dark robed religous fanatic who won't stage-dive because of fears he might accidentally touch a woman, and sings in a cod Jamaican accent about the need to "return to Zion". (What next, and Amish version of Take That?)

But when I see his posters splattered over London, I feel pinpricks of rage. His songs might sound like pleasantly bland homilies, but in fact they are rallying calls for a particularly nasty misogynistic and homophobic far-Right strain of religous fanatacism. When he sings repeatedly "rebuild the Temple", anybody who has been to the Settlements in Israel/Palestine will know how this is interpreted - demolish the Muslim Dome of the Rock and rebuild the Third Temple on the rubble.

Calls for World War Three are not my idea of a sweet melody.

Ahhh Mr Hari, I wonder if you would ever dare criticise a Muslim singer based on your own hatred rather than facts. Ah, that's right, you can freely bash Jews all you want, but dare insult a Muslim and, well, we know what would happen.

update - it appears as though Mr Hari detests all religion, although it does seem that only Jewish reggae artists are fair game for his anger. (hat tips to the commenters for the info ;)

MEP Member Sticks Up For Israel

In light of the recent resignation of Chris Davies over his anti-Jewish e-mails, it's refreshing to know that the European Parliament isn't completely run by "liberal" Jew-haters, America bashers and Islamofascist lovers :

European Parliament member Hannu Takkula of Finland has urged Europeans to prevent the visit of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Germany for the opening of the World Cup in June.

In a reference to the Iranian nuclear threat, Takkula, who was speaking at a Europe Day event on Tuesday night said that never before had the fate of Israel and Europe been so inter-connected.

"The same forces that hate Israel, also hate Europe," he said, adding that Europe must remain true to its Judeo-Christian roots by supporting Israel.

The heritage of the European Union was founded on three cities - Athens, Rome and Jerusalem - said Takkula, who conceded that not everyone in the European Parliament shared his enthusiasm about Israel's capital, as illustrated by the absence of any European embassy in Jerusalem.

Comparing what is happening in the world today with events of the 1930s and 40s, Takkula noted that it was significant that European leaders agree that there is no other solution than peace and cooperation. In a sense, he said, it could be said that the EU grew out of the Holocaust.

"One would have thought that events of the Second World War would have taught us lessons for centuries," he said, commenting that today's threats contain the same disturbing rhetoric as those of the 1930s. Attempts to destroy the Jewish state "are nothing more than the same old anti-Semitism," he said.

Takkula said Europe bore some responsibility for Hamas's win in the Palestinian elections. Had Europeans not been so keen to support the previous corrupt government and had, instead, imposed stricter requirements about the use of funds, the situation might be different today, he said. He applauded France for playing a crucial role in preventing members of Hamas from entering the Council of Europe and taking part in the debate.

Takkula also had praise for German Chancellor Angela Merkel for taking a firm stand with regard to Iran.

"The Iranian president is clearly denounced by European leaders," he said.

The Europe Day event was hosted by the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem (ICEJ) on behalf of the European Coalition for Israel.

ICEJ Executive Director Malcolm Hedding, cognizant of voices within the European Union that are trying to make a distinction between the Hamas government and the Palestinian people, insisted that the EU should not differentiate between people and governments.

"Otherwise, what is democracy?" he asked. "At the end of the day, people have to be responsible for the people they put in power."

Moscow-born Israel Beiteinu MK Yuri Shtern, who chairs the Christian Allies Caucus, noted that until 2003, there was no officially registered pro-Israel group in any European Institution. As a native Russian he said, to him May 9, was not so much Europe Day as VE Day, which is celebrated on May 9 in the Soviet Union and countries of the former Soviet Union.

Shtern shared the concern of his Christian colleagues that the message of history was being largely ignored.

"When you read history, everything is so clear," he said. "You can make an immediate forecast about what would happen, because it did happen. Why could they not see it?"

Looking around today, he continued, one could see the same phenomenon not only in Israel and in Europe, but in many other countries.

One of the reasons that Hitler and his cohorts had been able to succeed for so long said Shtern, was because they used anti-Semitism as a tool in promoting German foreign policy. They appealed to the anti-Semitic sentiments of the European masses and European leaders, and in this way were able to disarm them and to take over Europe.

"The challenge for Europe now is exactly the same," asserted Shtern. "Just as Europe was destroyed by anti-Semitism, it may be destroyed again, by anti-Zionism."
