Traditional British Piggy Banks Offending Muslims

It can't have been more than a few days ago that I went into my local bank (btw it's name starts with an 'N')and as I was leaving I asked the lady behind the counter if they had any piggy banks (i have a few old porcelain ones and wanted to add to the collection). She asked me WHY I wanted one and after I explained she told me they didn't have any. Well, I finally found out why they didn't stock them anymore and to say the least I was peeved, not surprised though :

British banks are banning piggy banks because they may offend some Muslims.

Halifax and NatWest banks have led the move to scrap the time-honoured symbol of saving from being given to children or used in their advertising, the Daily Express/Daily Star group reports here

Salim Mulla, secretary of the Lancashire Council of Mosques, backed the bank move.

"This is a sensitive issue and I think the banks are simply being courteous to their customers," he said.

However, the move brought accusations of political correctness gone mad from critics.

"The next thing we will be banning Christmas trees and cribs and the logical result of that process is a bland uniformity," the Dean of Blackburn, Reverend Christopher Armstrong, said.

"We should learn to celebrate our difference, not be fearful of them."

Khalid Mahmoud, the Labour MP for a Birmingham seat and one of four Muslim MPs in Britain, also criticised the piggy-bank ban.

"We live in a multicultural society and the traditions and symbols of one community should not be obliterated just to accommodate another," Mr Mahmoud said.

"I doubt many Muslims would be seriously offended by piggy banks."

I have a suggestion for all those religion of peacers who are offended by the piggy banks (this is especially true for those who bank where I do, in the west end at the bank with the 'N'). Walk out the door, turn to your right and GO BANK AT THE ISLAMIC BANK OF BRITAIN. After all, if you are a religous Muslim who is upset by Natwest's piggy banks, why are you banking at these infidel banks anyway? Isn't earning interest harem?

You live in England? I've got relatives over there.

They are amazing people. They aren't afraid of terrorism like us stupid Americans. They believe the "Jewish Lobby" controls America. They think Bush started the Iraq War because God told him to do so. They aren't aware of any real organized threat from Islamofascism.

It's just an amazing worldview. The most amazing thing about it is that worldview is supported by the British media. And meanwhile, they're banning Piglet. Apparently, they are afraid of a threat they don't believe exists in the first place.

Now, that sounds like something out of an A.A. Milne story, doesn't it?

lol, it's called head in the sand syndrome. That's why i had to start this blog. My little attempt to get the message out there.

Pastorius, you can't judge all Brits by what you see on the BBC and The Guardian.

Try reading the British Telegraph, and The Spectator for more realistic world views!

Yeah, I do read them. I recognize that there are many Brits who support Tony Blair and the Iraq War. I was just relating what my relatives believe, and I think it is true that the BBC and the Guardian do portray a world where the "Jewish Lobby" have damn near absolute control over world events.

In America, we generally don't hear that kind of crap in the MSM. However, we do hear it from the Leftist blogosphere, MoveOn.org, Cindy Sheehan, Michael Moore, and the editorial pages of some major papers.

That's a frightening development. The last time Jewish conspiracy theories became commonplace in Western media was in the leadup to WWII. I don't need to say anymore, do I?

Jokes aside, I know exactly the elements in British society you are referring to. Truly bizarre. I bet your British relatives read The Independent, or worse The Socalist Worker ;)
