JERUSALEM [MENL] -- Israel has warned its nationals to leave Egypt immediately. Israeli officials said the threat of an Al Qaida-aligned insurgency strike in Egypt has become extremely high. They said Al Qaida could strike Israeli or Western tourists in wake of Egypt's presidential elections, in which incumbent President Hosni Mubarak was expected to win easily.

The National Security Council Counter-Terrorism Headquarters has issued a warning for Israelis to avoid travel to Egypt. The council cited Egypt as having the most solid threat of a major strike.

"Egypt, very high concrete threat," the council said in a report on Wednesday. "Avoid visiting and leave country immediately."
